High acid as well as rustic tannin are present in this medium-bodied Pomerol along with notes of figs, plums and sweet and sour cherries. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

The Lafleur-Gazin has a ripe bouquet, precocious on its own modest way, with dark plum, a touch of mulberry and a touch of sous-bois. It has fine definition, not powerful but natural. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. The acidity is nigh on perfect, the fruit profile comparatively simple to its peers but I appreciate the understatement, refinement and sheer drinkability towards the finish. You could abscond with the sample and happily enjoy it that evening. There is a cheeky biscuit note just on the aftertaste. Fine. Tasted April 2012.

Bright ruby-red. Perfumed violet and strawberry aromas are complicated by chocolate and herbs. The bright red berry and cherry flavors show lovely depth and purity, with chocolate and vanilla notes adding another dimension. Very good balance and a fresh, long, smooth finish make this vintage of Lafleur-Gazin one of the best in recent memory.

Lafleur Gazin

Deze mooie wijngaard van 8,5 hectare, gesitueerd tussen Château Lafleur en Château Gazin is eigendom van de familie van Madame Delfour-Borderie sinds drie generaties. Hij is aangeplant met 80% Merlot en 20% Cabernet Franc. De wijnstokken zijn gemiddeld 30 jaar oud. De bodemsamenstelling variëert tussen leem, graves en klei. Een traditionele werkwijze en vinificatie gekoppeld aan de diversiteit van het terroir maakt van Lafleur Gazin een typisch soepele en volmondige Pomerol.

Moueix

Christian Moueix is net zoals zijn legendarische vader, Jean-Pierre Moueix, vereenzelvigd met Pomerol. Na zijn studies aan UC Davis eind de jaren 1960, vervoegde hij de Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix waarvan hij de leiding nam. Zijn zoon Edouard staat nu aan zijn zijde. Hij bestuurt een indrukwekkend imperium dat ondermeer La Fleur Pétrus, Trotanoy en Hosanna omvat in Pomerol, Bélair Monange in Saint Emilion en Dominus in Napa Valley. In 2008 werd hij “Decanter Man of the Year”.
