50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc en 5% Petit Verdot. Deze licht robijnrood gekleurde Moulis heeft een floraal geparfumeerde neus met een beetje zwarte peper. Hij is zacht en fris in de mond met rood fruit en frisse zuren. Poujeaux 2014 lijkt voor velen blijkbaar vooral soepel en toegankelijk, maar die indruk lijkt voorbarig. OK, de extra densiteit van 2009 en 2010 kan iedereen gebruiken, maar we verkondigen gerust: dit is een B-2 Spirit stealthbommenwerper die menig proever zal verrassen binnen 10 jaar... "Il a de l'étoffe". U hoorde het hier eerst!

The 2014 Poujeaux has a rather muffled bouquet that lacks the brightness of its peers. It feels a little earthy and leathery, hints of pressed flowers emerging with time, though it does require more intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin on the entry. Chewy and more sinewy than I expect, a slight menthol character towards the finish. It delivers the density without quite the same degree of complexity and finesse. Give it another couple of years. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. Drink 2019-2035.

The 2014 Poujeaux has a slight mulchy scent on the nose that detracted from the clarity and complexity of the aromatics. The palate is quite structured with rather dry tannins, moderate weight but attenuating towards the pinched finish. This showed better in barrel and so hopefully it will improve in bottle. It just seems a bit "lost" at the moment. Tasted twice with consistent notes. Drink: 2018-2028.

The Château Poujeaux 2014 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 35% Merlot. It offers blackberry and briary scents on the nose, a little disjointed at first but the aromas coalesce with time. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin. There is satisfying fruit concentration here, finely-tuned acidity and a really quite sophisticated, elegant finish. Classically lined Poujeaux that should settle at the upper end of my banded score. Drink: 2018-2030.

The 2014 Poujeaux is an absolutely joyous wine. Plump, juicy and flavorful, it possesses striking depth. Dark stone fruit, spice, leather and tobacco give the wine an attractive savory profile. The 2014 could use a bit of time in bottle to settle down, but it is very nicely done. Tasted two times.

Dank zij de familie Theil werd Poujeaux Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. Vanaf 2008 bliezen de Heren Philippe en Matthieu Cuvelier, toen al eigenaars van Clos Fourtet in Saint Emilion, nieuw leven in de schone slaapster: ambitieuze investeringen, strenge selectie en zin voor excellentie houden de wijnen van Poujeaux op een bijzonder hoog niveau. Christophe Labenne leidt het Châtau en Stéphane Derenoncourt is er consulent. CuvelierPhilippe Cuvelier kocht het befaamde Clos Fourtet in 2001. Samen met zijn zoon Matthieu kocht hij ondertussen Poujeaux in Moulis, maar ook Grandes Murailles en Côte de Baleau in Saint Emilion. Ze bezitten in minderheidsaandeel in Clos Saint Martin. |
