Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is een iconische witte Pessac Léognan. Hun 2014 is méér dan op niveau... 75% Sauvignon en 25% Sémillon. Bleekgouden kleur. In de neus herkennen we groene appels, citroenschil en pitvruchten. Die "agrumes" tekenen hem ook in de mond en de totaal overheerlijke ondertoon of "filigrane" straalt tot in de majestueuze finale. Dit is een zeer complexe en complete droge witte wijn die een schitterende toekomst tegemoetgaat. Prachtwijn.

The 2014 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc offers orange blossom, quince and dried honey on the well-defined bouquet. I like the manner in which this unfolds with aeration. The palate is well balanced with great depth, very well judged acidity with just the right amount of salinity and a brisk, focused finish. What an outstanding white from Pessac. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. Drink 2020-2040.

The 2014 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a beautiful white Pessac-Léognan. It offers a very succinct and focused bouquet of dew-speckled Granny Smiths, then flint and wet limestone, certainly a more stony bouquet than overt fruit. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, exquisite balance, the citrus fruit dappled with white pepper and spices, but everything very judicious and nuanced. It offers wonderful persistence in the mouth, basically a class act that comes strongly recommended. Drink 2018-2040.

The Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a blend of 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Sémillon matured in around 40% new oak, with a low pH, Olivier Bernard remarking that it was close to 3.0. It has an almost clinical nose, extremely well defined, Zen-like at first with scents of flint and cold granite, stone rather than fruit. The palate is fresh on the entry with crisp acidity, though it is not shrill. It is very focused, "minimalist" Domaine de Chevalier that Olivier remarked is perhaps the best he has ever made. Perhaps he is right. There is a Burgundy like sense of terroir coming through here, a wine that perhaps does not wish to conform to the Bordeaux stereotype of what a white Pessac-Léognan should be. So it's a bit of a sui generis, a one-off, and you'll love it.

This is so solid and structured. It's bigger and better than most 2014s! What a wine. Full body with flavors of stones, dried apples and pears. Goes on for minutes. Yes man!

A solid and muscular Domaine de Chevalier with layers of fruit. Very dense, loads of flavor. Full body, bright acidity and a long, long finish. Tangy acidity. It lasts for minutes.

The 2014 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc comes across as very young and in need of cellaring. Then again, that's the way it is in most vintages with the Blanc. White flowers, mint and orchard fruit are some of the signatures. In 2014, the Blanc is a wine of power, texture and depth, some of which is found in place of the brighter, more citrus-driven character found in other vintages. In 2014, the blend is 70 % Sauvignon Blanc and 30 % Sémillon. Tasted two times.

Domaine de Chevalier

In 1983 kocht Olivier Bernard Domaine de Chevalier in Léognan van Claude Ricard. Hij runt het met zorg en inzicht. De witte wijn is een begrip in Bordeaux. Zijn bewaarpotentieel is geweldig. Vandaag bereikt ook de rode Domaine de Chevalier een kwaliteit ongezien sinds de jaren zestig. Laten we aannemen dat de laatste wijnjaren hun allerbeste zijn. Liefhebbers rekenen Domaine de Chevalier dan ook tot de voornaamste Châteaux van Pessac Léognan, samen met Haut Brion en La Mission Haut Brion, Haut Bailly, Smith Haut Lafitte, Pape Clément en Les Carmes Haut Brion. De prijs blijft bovendien redelijk. De getalenteerde Stéphane Derenoncourt is er consulent sinds 2002.
In de jaren 1980 en 1990 heeft hij de wijngaard heraangeplant op een densiteit van 10.000 wijnstokken per hectare. De gemiddelde leeftijd is nu 35 jaar en de wijnstokken komen op kruissnelheid. 55 hectare zijn beplant met rode variëteiten: 63-65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot aangevuld met Cabernet Franc en Petit Verdot. 7 hectare Graves op klei en een zanderige ondergrond net buiten Léognan is aangeplant met witte druiven op een densiteit van 10.000 wijnstokken per hectare: 75% Sauvignon en 25% Sémillon. De werkwijze in lutte raisonnée werd bio en biodynamisch.

Bernard

In 1983 kocht Olivier Bernard Domaine de Chevalier in Léognan. De witte Domaine de Chevalier wordt al langer aanzien als één van de grootste droge witte wijnen van Bordeaux, en sinds 2002 herstelde hij ook het prestige van de rode wijn met de hulp van Stéphane Derenoncourt. Ondertussen werd hij mede-eigenaar van Château Guiraud in Sauternes samen met Stephan de Neipperg en de familie Peugeot, en vooral Matthieu Guflet. In 2011 startte hij een nieuw avontuur met Clos des Lunes in de Sauternais.
