De 2016 is misschien wel een nieuw hoogtepunt voor Grand Village Rouge. De 14% Cabernet Franc in het assemblage volstaat om het aromatisch spectrum te betoveren. Er is spanning, er is kracht. Het geheel omschrijven we als somptueux en vitaal. Grand Village heeft dus alles om nog maar te zwijgen over de kleine prijs.
De familie Guinaudeau bewoont dit idyllisch Château nabij Fronsac. Maar ze zijn ook eigenaar van het iconische Lafleur in Pomerol. Vergeet hier dus de postcode en geniet met volle teugen van deze beauty. Of zoals Antonio Galloni schrijft:
“a fabulous wine by any measure. Don’t miss it.”

The 2016 Grand Village has a pretty bouquet of blackberry, bilberry and light iris aromas. The elegant palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and salty black fruit, and almost briny toward the finish, which displays impressive depth. This is a superb Grand Village, one of the best I have tasted. Drink 2021-2033.

The 2016 Chateau Grand Village, Mouillac (the second smallest village in Bordeaux—fact!) is a blend of 86% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc picked 3 October and on 18 October, respectively. The bouquet is open and expressive with scents of mulberry and black plums, with the oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a fine line of acidity, displaying more ripeness than the 2015 last year with a tang of spice on the finish. This represents a more sophisticated Grand Village from the Guinaudeau family. Drink: 2020-2030.

The 2016 Grand Village is a big wine. The natural richness of the year is evident in the wine's exuberant fruit and plush, dense feel. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, sweet spice and lavender all race out of the glass. Today, the ripeness of the vintage is quite evident in the wine's intense profile and overall feel. The 2016 spent 14-15 months in oak, 30% new. Drink 2020-2031. Sleeper of the Vintage & Value Play.

The 2016 Grand Village is absolutely delicious. Pliant, supple and generous, the Grand Village is a real standout in 2016. The interplay of mid-palate juiciness and bright acids that are such a signature of the year make for a compelling wine. A closing burst of red fruit and blood orange adds an exclamation point to this gorgeous and expressive wine from the Guinaudeau family. The 2016 is a fabulous wine by any measure. Don't miss it.

Made of 86% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Grand Village bursts out of the glass with exuberant black cherries, crushed blueberries and boysenberry notes with hints of redcurrants, pencil lead, Sichuan pepper and spearmint. The medium to full-bodied palate explodes with energy, offering layers of blue and black fruits with loads of spicy sparks and a very plush frame, finishing long and vibrant. Drink 2021-2038.

Grand VillageJane Anson - Top 10 affordable Bordeaux - decanter.com (28 december 2017) - Owned by the Guinaudeau family of Château Lafleur, this is becoming a don’t miss wine in the AOC Bordeaux appellation. In the family for centuries, it’s only been since 2000 that first Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau and now son Baptiste and daughter-in-law Julie have been in charge of the winemaking, employing their legendary attention to detail, with viticulture adapted not just to each plot but each plant. They also have their grapevine nursery for massal selction of vines up here. The red is a Bordeaux Supérieur, although the grapes are almost in Fronsac (located in the tiny village of Mouillac), and in most vintages is a blend of more than 90% Merlot with the rest Cabernet Franc, vinified in cement with around 30% new oak barrels (some from Château Lafleur, or used here before heading over to Lafleur). Plummy rich fruits, well balanced, more than punches above its weight price wise.
The white wines Grand Village Blanc and especially Les Champs Libre (although this last one may be creeping above my price ceiling for this list) are also seriously stunning. GuinaudeauJacques en Sylvie Guinaudeau en nu hun zoon en schoondochter, Baptiste en Julie, staan aan het roer van Lafleur. In Pomerol staat deze legendarische wijngaard bekend als «le vignoble-jardin ». Lafleur is eigendom van hun familie sinds 1872, één jaar na de stichting van Vyncke-Daels…
Lafleur is een mythe en één van de allergrootste wijnen van Bordeaux. Hij is diep, intens, karaktervol en cerebraal. Omwille van zijn zeer beperkte productie (om en bij de duizend kistjes) is het cult- en knuffelgehalte bij verzamelaars wereldwijd bijzonder hoog. Naast Petrus heeft Lafleur waarschijnlijk het mooiste terroir van Pomerol, ook al rekent Lafleur voor 65% op Cabernet Franc om de droom werkelijkheid te maken; bij Petrus draait het om 100% Merlot. Samen brengen ze de allerbeste Pomerols en dat met de regelmaat van een klok.
Julie en Baptiste wonen op Lafleur, en Sylvie en Jacques op Grand Village in Mouillac nabij Fronsac (ze maken er een knappe rode en een vibrante witte Bordeaux). Op de weg tussen Grand Village en Lafleur startten ze in 2009 een nieuw avontuur met "G de Guinaudeau" die ze graag bestempelen als "een grote wijn in wording". Onlangs werkten ze zelfs met Sauvignon Blanc druivenstokken uit Sancerrre om een piepkleine productie witte wijn te maken die de naam kreeg « Les Champs Libres ».
Het mag tegenstrijdig lijken maar de familie Guinaudeau zijn perfectionisten met een laissez-faire attitude. Hun inborst en werkwijze toont hoe je het hoogste niveau kan bereiken van op drie verschillende terroirs.
