50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot en 2% Cabernet Franc. « A whole other ball game » noteerde ik. Ook al zijn we fan van Poujeaux, misschien moet die in 2016 zijn meerdere wel herkennen in deze volmaakte Chasse Spleen, die ongetwijfeld de beste is in vele jaren. Een mooie neus, een precieze en bijzonder aangename wijn. De milieu de bouche is zuiver met wonderbaarlijke tannine. Dit wordt consequent opgevolgd in een rijpe, zéér lange finale. Alarm: prachtwijn!

The 2016 Chasse-Spleen has a wonderful, detailed, mineral-driven bouquet that feels like a coiled spring at the moment. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, impressive depth and a pure but grippy, convincing finish. One of the best Chasse-Spleen in recent years. Bravo! This might represent one of the best quality-to-price ratios on the Left Bank. Drink 2022-2045.

The 2016 Chasse-Spleen has a very elegant bouquet with neatly integrated oak, the terroir really showing through here, hints of cedar and smoke emerging with time. The palate is fresh as a button on the entry. It is cut through with a superb line of acidity that engenders superb tension, the tannins firm but fine with a subtle marine influence towards the persistent finish. This is a fabulous Chasse-Spleen, the best I have ever tasted from the estate. It could end up at the top of by banded score. Drink: 2021-2045.

The 2016 Chasse-Spleen is an earthy, powerful wine. There is good persistence, but the 2016 remains a bit rustic and hearty in style. Smoke, dried herbs, dried cherry and a whole range of savory Cabernet Sauvignon notes run through this expressive, hearty Moulis en Médoc. Drink 2018-2024.

The 2016 Chasse-Spleen is dense, powerful and super-concentrated. There is not a whole lot of subtlety, that much is obvious. Even so, the 2016 is quite pleasing. Scents of graphite, smoke, crème de cassis, licorice and dark spice infuse the racy, potent finish. The 2016 is a big boy. This hearty, flavorful Moulis will drink well with minimal cellaring. Tasted two times.

IN DE WOORDEN VAN CHASSE SPLEEN
Nez net et expressif de cerises noires et de rose rouge fraîche. Après agitation : mûre et poivre rose. L’attaque est franche et ample. La bouche est volumineuse et s’ouvre sur une trame fine et serrée, satinée. La finale est persistante sur des notes de réglisse et de poudre de cacao. Attendre 2022 pour déguster, avec un potentiel de garde jusqu’en 2045.

Chasse Spleen

Chasse Spleen is een gereputeerde Médoc. Samen met Poujeaux biedt het de beste wijnen in Moulis en Médoc, in het Noordwesten van Margaux. De wijngaard strekt zich uit over méér dan 100 hectare. Al 40 jaar is Chasse-Spleen een verhaal van vrouwen: Madame Castaing, de eerste eigenares erfde enkele van de beste percelen op de heuvel van Grand Poujeaux. Maar helaas, te laat om deel te nemen aan de classificatie van 1855. Later was er (vanaf 1976) Bernadette Villars, dochter van wijnhandelaar Jacques Merlaut. Ze werd opgevolgd vanaf 1992 door haar oudste dochter, Claire, en vandaag Céline, de jongste. Het familiedomein houdt de wijnen aan de top van de appellation Moulis en haalt het beste uit de sector Grand Poujeaux, een zeer goed terroir van graves garonnaises op een kalkstenen ondergrond waar Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%) en Petit Verdot floreren. Chasse Spleen was bijzonder succesvol in de fenomenale wijnjaren 2009 en 2010 en verkiest een meer toegankelijke en vroeger drinkklare stijl. De wijnen zouden eigenlijk van het niveau van de Crus Classés moeten zijn, zeker in grote millésimes. Chasse Spleen heeft twee evenwaardige tweede wijnen: Oratoire de Chasse Spleen in Moulis en l'Héritage de Chasse Spleen als Haut Médoc.

De naam Chasse Spleen staat voor het verjagen van de melancholie en is geïnspireerd door Lord Byron of Charles Baudelaire.
