The 2016 Latour a Pomerol is a blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc this year. I found the nose a little disjointed compared to others, maybe just a touch of leanness here, although it does meld together with aeration and develops attractive mineral/limestone scents that complement the bright red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with gritty tannin on the entry, plenty of tobacco and cedar notes lending it a Left Bank-like personality, a touch rigid towards the finish. Not a bad Latour-à-Pomerol, but to be honest I have tasted better in recent vintages, including the 2014 and 2015. Drink: 2021-2038.

94+ Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Januari 2019)
The 2016 Latour à Pomerol is a very beautiful wine. It is also quite a bit more reticent than most Pomerols in this vintage. Savory herb, leather, rose petal, blood orange, cedar, tobacco, menthol and dried cherry lift from the glass. En primeur, the 2016 was quite sensual, whereas today is decidedly powerful and structured. It will be interesting to see where things go in the coming years. One thing is for sure. I would not dream of opening a bottle anytime soon. Drink 2026-2046.

92-95 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (April 2017)
The 2016 Latour à Pomerol is all about feel. Broad, ample and creamy on the palate, it offers striking textural nuance and overall finesse. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. Rose petal, sweet red berry and minty notes add to the wine's brightness and total sensuality.

94 Lisa Perrotti-Brown - robertparker.com (December 2018)
Blended of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the medium garnet-purple colored 2016 Latour à Pomerol is a little reticent to begin, unfolding slowly to give glimpses of warm redcurrants, fresh plums and kirsch scents plus wafts of tar, garrigue and forest floor. Medium-bodied, the palate is tightly wound, offering great freshness and a firm frame of grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy. Drink 2019-2039.

93-94 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (Maart 2017)
A juicy and refined wine with deep fruit, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Medium-bodied and edgy and bright. Doesn’t possess the power of the 2015 but outstanding.

94 Jane Anson – decanter.com (April 2017)
Plush and pumped up, stretching out with those elongated tannins and fresh acidities. Totally gorgeous cassis, blackberry, coffee, peppery spice, slate and tar. It's muscular and ripped, but with a wonderfully rich, textured quality to the tannins. Very much a physical experience, you are pushing through these flavours one at a time. 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Drink: 2027-2045.

17/20 Jancis Robinson – jancisrobinson.com (April 2017)
Dark crimson. Relatively light nose with some floral hints. Sprightly with notable acidity. Polished and racy with very marked tannins. For the moment it's all potential rather than reality. Drink: 2028-2044.

93-96 James Molesworth - Wine Spectator – winespectator.com (April 2017)
Rich, polished and suave, this lets its plum and cassis fruit flow liberally, while keeping a graphite edge in reserve on the finish. Gorgeous feel, with fruit to burn. And it will burn for a while, because the acidity is well-embedded and the ample tannins are supple and long.

95 Tim Atkin – timatkin.com (April 2017)
Latour à Pomerol has a reputation for producing meaty, backward wines, but the opposite is the case here. So fresh and smooth that you could sup it from the barrel as it matures, this is a fresh, floral, grassy delight with fine tannins and stylish oak integration. 2022-30.

In 2008 werd hij “Decanter Man of the Year”.
