Olfantsrivier. Old bushvine Chenin Blanc on decomposed sandstone soils. 580 kistjes gemaakt.
Deze 100% old Bushvine Chenin Blanc is afkomstig van drie percelen op de hellingen van Skurfberg tussen Clanwilliam en Lamberts Bay in Olifantsrivier. De variëteit van de percelen is de sleutel van zijn complexiteit: het ene perceel brengt immense aromatische concentratie, het tweede mineraliteit en een aards karakter, en het derde, hoogste perceel, dichter bij de Atlantische Oceaan, frisheid en zuren. Na percellaire vinificatie wordt dit fruit na 12 maand gemarrieerd, en 6 maand later gebotteld.

Eben Sadie
This is possibly, to date, one of the vintages which showed the greatest equilibrium from the outset: from the completion of fermentation to being bottled. The vineyard displays its usual stone fruit aromas; and again a minerality and granular tannins with a line of acidity that just bind everything together. We are confident that this Skurfberg will age well and we do suggest decanting during the first 5 years.

100% Chenin Blanc planted in the 1950s on the Skurfberg mountains in the Olifants River region. From 3 different vineyards this is possibly SA’s finest vineyard. The 2016 is a little weightier than before with attractive stone fruit aromas laced with lemongrass and leading on to a fine acidity and saline detail so typically found on wines from this incredible terroir. Deservedly regarded as one of the finest white wines in the world.

Chenin Blanc, planted 1950s in the Skurfberg Mountains, decomposed sandstone. A tightly-wound white smoky nose, with poised reduction. There is tangy, salt-dusted lemon rind with fresh pineapple and fresh basil. It is pulpy and zesty on the palate, giving but with tension. Somewhat mysterious still, it is slightly shy. “There are wines that give energy, and there are wines that take energy,” Sadie says. “This is a taker.”
