2017 La Fleur Pétrus is een ware beauty: zacht en lichtvoetig, verfijnd en expansief, en complementair in fruit en tannine. De neus is exuberant met gevanilleerde kersjes en pruimpjes. Geroosterde koffieboontjes verleiden de mond met souplesse. Het geheel is perfect gelaagd en voorzien van textuur en precisie. We verwachten ernstig bewaarpotentieel, ook al hadden we graag direct ons flesje gebotteld! 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc en 3% Petit Verdot op 18,7 hectare oude, diepe, witte, kleihoudende graves.

The 2017 La Fleur-Pétrus has a very detailed and precise bouquet, retaining the mixture of red and black fruit that it showed out of barrel, developing that faint estuarine/brine scent that lends it personality as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, light spiced with a sprinkling of cracked black pepper and bay leaf over the persistent finish. This is an excellent Pomerol and it should give at least two decades of drinking pleasure. Drink 2022-2045.

The 2017 La Fleur-Pétrus has the most expressive and flamboyant bouquet from the J-P Moueix range and I can see why Edouard Moueix is smitten by its early showings. There is a mélange of red and black fruit, crushed violet and a distant tang of the sea (or should that be the Dordogne river?) The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannin, quite rich of the vintage but not overpowering or glossy, delivering a velvety smooth second-half that caresses the senses and leaves you utterly beguiled. If am to quibble, it just misses a little complexity and nuance on the finish but otherwise...très bon vin. Drink 2022-2045.

The 2017 Lafleur-Petrus is elegant, polished and wonderfully refined from start to finish. Everything just falls into place effortlessly. Aromatic, sculpted fruit gives the 2017 its sense of regal beauty and total finesse. Beautifully lifted and precise, it is framed by gentle, silky tannins. Small red berries, mint, blood orange, spice and licorice develop in the glass, but it is the wine's cashmere-like softness that impresses most. In 2017 Lafleur-Petrus is a real standout. The 2017 Lafleur-Petrus is dazzling. Bright, lifted and precise, the 2017 captures all the best qualities of the vintage in its radiant fruit, expressive aromatics and silky tannins. A wine of pure and total sensuality, the 2017 is impressive from the very first taste. Medium in body, gracious and exceptionally polished, the 2017 simply has it all. In a second tasting, the 2017 showed darker tonalities of fruit and more muscle, which suggests it is a Pomerol that will have much to say over the coming years and decades. Tasted two times.

A powerful, muscular wine fully representing the slightly more masculine style that the Christian Moueix stable has exhibited over the past few years. This is an estate that has been fascinating to watch develop, as it sets to establish its own identity in the post-Petrus era on this side of the family. Ambitious and well-constructed, it has clear ageing potential. There was no frost here, so they were able to benefit from an early-budding year. That kick of Petit Verdot gives a clear shot of dark, exotic spices through the finish - Christian Moueix was responsible for its addition a few years ago. An excellent La Fleur Pétrus, one of the wines of the vintage in Pomerol. Drink 2025-2040.

A blend of 93% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2017 la Fleur-Petrus is a little youthfully reticent to begin, opening to offer glimpses at kirsch, black raspberries and warm plums plus nuances of potpourri, powdered cinnamon, dusty soil and dried lavender. Medium-bodied, the palate is finely knit and elegant with a firm frame of grainy tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long and mineral laced. Drink 2022-2049.

A final blend of 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the very deep garnet-purple colored 2017 la Fleur-Petrus has quite an earthy nose, sporting notions of black soil, mossy bark and truffles over a core of cassis, mulberries and plum preserves plus hints of espresso, anise and peppercorns. Medium to full-bodied, firm, grainy and with great freshness, the sturdy frame supports generous black and blue fruits with earthy accents and fantastic length.

Deep, ripe, and powerful, with beautiful notes of crème de cassis, tobacco leaf and integrated oak, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a full, fleshy mid-palate, sweet tannin, and a great finish. This killer blend of 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot will need 2-4 years of bottle age and cruise for 15+ in cool cellars.

La Fleur PétrusLa Fleur Pétrus is cultwijn voor ‘s werelds fijnste neuzen en collectionneurs. Vooral sinds 1998 stijgt de kwaliteit gestaag met 2010 als voorlopig hoogtepunt. De wijngaard heeft op vandaag een critische massa van 18,7 hectare, beplant met 90% Merlot en 10% Cabernet Franc. Er wordt 40 à 50% nieuwe eik gebruikt. De productie bereikt zo’n 3.750 kisten per jaar. De eigenaars zijn Christian en Edouard Moueix en de wijnmaker is Eric Murisasco. Het Château produceert geen tweede wijn.
Er zijn sporen van het gehucht Lafleur in 1289, maar de wijngaard werd pas gedoopt in het midden van de XIXde Eeuw door de eigenaarsfamilie Arnaud, die ook Petrus bezat. Sinds de legendarische Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953 La Fleur Petrus kocht, startte een stille revolutie die Pomerol tot de wereldtop bracht. In 1994 voegde zijn zoon Christian daar “une délicieuse butte graveleuse” van Le Gay aan toe, dat centraal gelegen was op het plateau. Kleinzoon Edouard kocht enkele hectare “Graves profondes” bij, gelegen nabij Le Pin, ten Zuiden van het plateau. Providence, een wijngaard aangekocht in 2005, wordt voortaan ook selectief opgenomen in het ensemble. Sluitstuk werd een perceel nabij de kerk van Pomerol en een bijhorend, elegant gebouw dat vanaf juli 2013 het nieuw Château La Fleur Pétrus werd. Op enkele jaar tijd groeide La Fleur Pétrus van 9 tot 18,7 hectare en werd zo een toonaangevende entiteit binnen Pomerol. Met de edele “blauwe” kleigronden van Petrus als tegenpool, moet La Fleur Pétrus de vaandeldrager worden van de Graves van Pomerol. MoueixChristian Moueix is net zoals zijn legendarische vader, Jean-Pierre Moueix, vereenzelvigd met Pomerol. Na zijn studies aan UC Davis eind de jaren 1960, vervoegde hij de Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix waarvan hij de leiding nam. Zijn zoon Edouard staat nu aan zijn zijde. Hij bestuurt een indrukwekkend imperium dat ondermeer La Fleur Pétrus, Trotanoy en Hosanna omvat in Pomerol, Bélair Monange in Saint Emilion en Dominus in Napa Valley. In 2008 werd hij “Decanter Man of the Year”. | |
