Montlandrie is mijn favoriete fles in de resem schitterende en betaalbare wijnen van Denis Durantou. Robijnrood kleurt het glas. Het rijkelijk aroma in de neus herinnert aan zoethout, zwarte kersjes en zwarte bessen. In de mond komt Montlandrie rijkelijk geconcentreerd uit de hoek met zuiver fruit, verfijnde tannine en speelse tonaliteiten die als de staart van een pauw openplooien in een mooie finale. Deze onweerstaanbare super-Castillon verwelkomt de proever met heerlijke tannine en laserscherpe precisie. Jawel!“Positively lipsmackingly delicious” zou een Brexiteer zeggen. Begin, midden en einde volgen elkaar op met klasse en drive in een rijkelijke en volmaakte proefervaring. De hemelse kwaliteit van de tannines maakt misschien wel van deze Montlandrie de meest ambitieze ooit. Een schot in de roos!
De 75% Merlot werd geplukt tussen 20 en 26 september en daarna volgden de 20% Cabernet Franc en 5% Cabernet Sauvignon op 28 september. De élevage gebeurt in 40% nieuwe eik. U begrijpt dat de verhouding prijs-kwaliteit-plezier hier snor zit...

91 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Februari 2020)
The 2017 Montlandrie was picked from 20 to 26 September for the Merlot and 28 September for the Cabernets, and matured in 40% new oak. It has a small reduction on the nose at the moment, but that will disappear with bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very silky in texture with hints of Indian and brown spices towards the elegant finish. Approachable in style, drink this over the next decade. Drink 2020-2030.

The 2017 Montlandrie was picked from 13 to 28 September. It boasts an utterly charming bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and just a hint of crushed violet. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, dark fruit but fresh and lively, very precise with a welcome dash of black pepper towards the graphite-tinged finish. Denis Durantou described this as one of his favorite wines of 2017 and I can understand why. Drink 2021-2035.

Denis Durantou's 2017 Montlandrie is bursting at the seams with the essence of blackberry jam, chocolate, cloves, new leather, licorice and menthol. Although not especially subtle, the 2017 packs a serious punch. I would prefer to drink it on the young side, while the fruit remains vibrant. Drink 2019-2029.

88-91 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Mei 2018)
Succulent red cherry, plum, blood orange, spice and new leather meld together in the 2017 Montlandrie, Denis Durantou's Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. Pliant, supple and inviting, the 2017 has much to offer. I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later, while the fruit retains its vibrancy. Time in the glass brings out the wine's tannins and overall structure. Drink 2019-2029.

This has great aromatics right off the bat and a creaminess to the fruit. Yet there’s still freshness delivered by menthol notes on the finish, along with tight spices. This is a young Cabernet Sauvignon that is already pulling its weight. Firm, bright, with real finesse and confidence. Good for medium-term drinking. No frost here, which makes winemaker Denis Durantou very lucky as some parts of Castillon were pretty badly hit. Merlot picked 20-26 September, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon September 28. Production this year expected to be 43,000 bottles, 40% new oak used. Drinking Window 2022 - 2032

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Montlandrie rocks up with bold blackberry preserves and plum preserves scents with hints of bay leaves, charcoal and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with black fruit and minerally accents, supported by firm, chewy tannins, finishing a little firm. Drink 2020-2030.

A blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Montlandrie gives up notes of crushed black plums, red currants and black cherries with suggestions of cigar box, yeast extract, tapenade and underbrush. Medium-bodied with a solid backbone of firm, grainy tannins, it has beautiful freshness and a mineral-tinged finish.

This is very minerally with crushed stones and dark fruit. Medium body and tight and firm tannins. Excellent.

Black core and dark purple crimson rim. Lovely dark cherry-chocolate aroma: both fruit and oak. Fine chalky texture is quite different from the Denis Durantou Lalande wines just tasted. More limestone? Tight and fresh, all still to come, finishing fresh.

Montlandrie

Denis Durantou kocht Montlandrie in maart 2009 omwille van de geologische gelijkenissen met Pavie en Tertre Roteboeuf. De combinatie van terroir, precieze vinificatie en een onberispelijk élevage resulteert in een overheerlijke prachtwijn. Deze 11 hectare in Castillon is beplant met 25 jaar oude Merlot en Cabernet Franc (2/3 + 1/3). Sinds 2016 wordt hieraan 5% Cabernet Sauvignon toegevoegd (aangeplant bij de aankoop).

Durantou is without doubt one of France's most talented winemakers, and Montlandrie has been owned by him since 2009... and this is one of the leading lights ... An accomplished, succulent wine.
