Olifantsrivier. Sémillon planted in 1930. Deze wijngaard beplant méér dan 90 jaar oude Sémillon Blanc en Sémillon Gris is gelegen op Trekpoort Kloof. De 2017 werd vroeger dan normaal binnengehaald en verklaart zo misschien zijn stakker karakter; maar wat een potentieel! VOLGENS EBEN SADIE In 2017 we also picked the Semillon Blanc and Gris earlier than our traditional picking dates and the wine in itself displays a much more compact structure; and the aromas start off being very spicy with ginger aspects and then grow and become more herbal. There are even some baked guava flavours that is compressed by waxy characteristics. It is for sure a fresher version of this vineyard in a bottle. IN DE PERS 96 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Augustus 2018) The 2017 Kokerboom is Sadie’s pure Sémillon from vines that are now 93 years old. It has a very well defined bouquet of yellow flowers, jasmine and touches of orange pith. The palate is supremely well balanced, with a perfect line of acidity, a waxy texture and hints of white pepper, lemon curd and a dab of sour lemon that lingers in the mouth. This is quite profound. A pronounced nose of white peach, green apple, hay and herbs plus a slight waxy note. A powerful and voluminous palate – great fruit concentration, lovely creamy texture and tangy acidity make this a very striking wine. Alcohol: 13.5%. Tim James – Platter’s This blend of Skurfberg red and white semillon is one of those in particularly short supply this vintage – unfortunately, as it’s a marvellous wine. I didn’t much care for the ripe opulence of the 2016, but here an opulent element is perfectly balanced with brilliant acidity, an element of tannic grip, and an intense spicy, herbal fruitiness, to give a delightful vibrancy.
