Riebeek. Cinsaut on slate. Briljant rood fruit dankzij een vroege oogst en een ijzersterke precisie maken van deze Pofadder één van de elegantste ooit, wat kan tellen na de grandioze 2016. Deze 100% Cinsaut siert de westelijke helling van de Kasteelberg in Swartland al meer dan een halve eeuw. Volgens Eben Sadie gedijt Cinsaut perfect in Zuid Afrika; we geven hem geen ongelijk! Opgelet: bewaarwijn… VOLGENS EBEN SADIE We picked the Cinsaut grapes in the Pofadder vineyard quite early and the result is a wine with an ultra-bright red fruit spectrum, almost like pomegranate seeds; and the fruit is very lifted in the glass. The tannins are still tight, steely - even crispy and granular, and the fruit is very much like the day we picked the grapes, therefore the wine still needs more time to develop in the bottle… or in the glass, where it develops some spicy aromatics when given the time to do so. Currently this 2017 presents itself as very-straight-down- the-line. IN DE PERS 95 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Augustus 2018) The 2017 Pofadder is pure Cinsault fermented in concrete tanks and conical foudres for 12 months. It has a clean, precise bouquet of tart red cherries, black currant leaf and a touch of chai tea. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, crisp acidity, gentle grip and a slightly brittle-textured but very penetrating, beautifully defined finish. I agree with Eben that this is one of the most elegant Pofadder I have tasted. Drink 2019-2032. 93 Christian Eedes - winemag.co.za (November 2018) From Swartland Cinsault. A subtle and enticing nose displaying cherry, plum, spice and earth with notes of rose and lavender in the background. The palate is rich and broad with moderate yet still tangy acidity and soft, super-fine tannins. A beautifully judged rendition of the variety with an extraordinary transparency about it. Alcohol: 13%. Tim James – Platter’s While I had thought the 2016 to be a touch weakened by fairly early picking, I thought this really lovely and successful (more so than Soldaat). It’s always one of the Cape’s most serious-minded cinsauts and this no exception. Real finesse and freshness, the acid beautifully poised. Nervy and energetic. Fine tannic texture and grip, enough to ensure future development (five years at least?).
