IN DE PERS

94 Neal Martin - vinous.com (Maart 2021)
The 2018 Marquis d’Alesme (the Becker is only noted on the back label!) has a beautiful and very pure bouquet of violet-tinged black fruit, crushed rock and India ink scents, all very seductive. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, perfectly pitched acidity and a velvety-smooth texture that lingers. Plush and extraordinarily harmonious, and one of the purest 2018s you will find on the Left Bank. Drink 2023-2045.

94 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Maart 2021)
The 2018 Marquis d'Alesme is a very silky, elegant wine. Sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, dried flowers and mint are laced throughout this wonderfully nuanced Margaux. Bright red berry fruit, mid-weight structure and silky tannins add to an impression of total finesse. The 2018 is so impressive, even in the early going. Drink 2028-2048.

92-95 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (April 2019)
The 2018 Marquis d'Alesme is gorgeous. In 2018 Marquis d'Alesme is far more aromatically complex and more nuanced than it has been in the recent past. Sweet floral, savory and spice add striking layers of dimension. The fruit is especially vibrant, with none of the overextracted notes or heaviness that plagued some recent vintages. The 2018 is really impressive. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. I can't wait to taste it from bottle.

94-95 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (April 2019)
This is a wonderful wine with dark berries, wet earth and dark tea. Fullbody, firm and striking tannins and a long, flavorful finish.

Good stuff from winemaker Marjolaine de Coninck: there’s a creamy sweetness through the palate, with patisserie notes joining the dark fruit impact of the Cabernet. It’s well balanced and rich, with tannins that build fairly rapidly from the mid-palate onwards - you can feel their impact but they support rather than crush.

95+ Lisa Perrotti-Brown – roberparker.com (Maart 2021)
The 2018 Marquis d'Alesme Becker is from the lieu-dit Les Terrasses de Margaux. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, and it has 14.5% alcohol. It was aged for 18 months in 65% new and 35% two-year-old barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, it needs considerable swirling to unlock notes of ripe blackcurrants, wild blueberries and Morello cherries, plus suggestions of violets, star anise, underbrush and Sichuan pepper. The medium to full-bodied palate is charged with energy, featuring loads of red and black fruit preserves layers and a finely grained texture, finishing long and mineral tinged. Drink 2024-2044.

The 2018 Marquis d'Alesme Becker is from the lieu-dit Les Terrasses de Margaux. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, and it has 14.5% alcohol. It is to be aged 18 months in 65% new and 35% two-year-old barrels. Deep purple-black in color, it leaps from the glass with bold, expressive black cherries, warm plums, crème de cassis and red roses scents with touches of baking spices, potpourri and fragrant earth. Full-bodied, rich and opulent, it completely fills the palate with hedonic black fruit preserves and spices, framed by firm, velvety tannins and finishing with fantastic length.

93-96 James Molesworth – winespectator.com (April 2019)
Plush and enticing, with a caressing feel to the layers of blueberry, raspberry and blackberry puree flavors. Light black tea and mesquite accents add cut and range on the finish. Long and gorgeous.

95-97 Jeb Dunnuck – jebdunnuck.com (April 2019)
Under the helm of Marjolaine de Coninck and consultant Michel Rolland, this estate has been on fire, and their 2018 Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker might just be the best yet. Comprised of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot aging in 65% new oak, this deeply colored Margaux offers a thrilling bouquet of crème de cassis, high-class smoke tobacco, graphite, and earth. Full-bodied, pure, beautifully concentrated, and structured, it has a backward, primordial feel and is going to need a solid 7-8 years of bottle age, but it’s a brilliant Margaux readers should snatch up! Tasted twice.

94-96 Jeff Leve – winecellarinsider.com (April 2019)
With a touch of smoke, earth, red fruits, violets and espresso, this wine is rich, polished and loaded with ripe, juicy, sweet vibrant fruits. Talk about a home run, this is one of the most improved estates in the Margaux appellation and it still sells for a song!

CHATEAU MARQUIS d’ALESME
