De neus van Charmail 2014 alleen al brengt in vervoering... Deze heerlijk zachte en gulle Haut Médoc is een assemblage van 38% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc en 11% Petit Verdot. Het werd een leuke en aangename wijn die niet inboet aan subtiliteit en finesse. Dit is dus een ware aanrader en hun beste wijn sinds 2010.

The 2014 Charmail has a ripe, quite opulent (for the vintage) bouquet with raspberry, crushed strawberry and melted tar scents. There is great precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with plush, supple tannin, cloaked in blackberry and raspberry fruit, brown spices and a pleasant chewiness towards the finish. Maybe a little rustic compared to its peers, but I think this will age extremely well. Tasted February 2017. Drink 2018-2028.

The Château Charmail 2014 is a blend of 38% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Cabernet Franc with 11% Petit Verdot cropped at 40 hectoliters per hectare from vines located across the road from Sociando-Mallet. It is matured in 25% new oak barrels. This has plenty of strapping black fruit on the nose that is clean and pure. The palate is smooth and rounded, supple in the mouth with good acidity on the refined, generous finish. This is one of the best Haut-Médoc wines that I tasted and it should represent great bang for bucks.

The 2014 Charmail is gorgeous. Dark, exuberant and juicy, it offers notable depth and intensity. Succulent black cherry, licorice, torrefaction, lavender and savory herbs all burst forward. Drink this ripe, hearty Haut-Médoc over the next handful of years. The blend is 38 % Merlot, 35 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 16 % Cabernet Franc and 11 % Petit Verdot. Tasted two times.

18/20 René Gabriel (April 2015) CharmailChâteau Charmail bezit een wijngaard van ca 28,5 hectare in Saint Seurin de Cadourne in het uiterste Noorden van de Médoc. De ondergrond bestaat uit "graves argileuses" eigen aan deze oevers aan de Gironde.
De eigenaar Bernard d'Hallouin is een ch'ti en dus een halve Vlaming. Hij liet het encépagement evolueren naar 41,2% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14,6% Cabernet Franc (voorheen 20%) en 11,2% Petit Verdot, aangeplant tegen een densiteit van 7.800 wijnstokken per hectare. De gemiddelde leeftijd van de wijngaard bereikte 28 jaar in 2018. Hubert de Boüard van Angélus is hier de consulent sinds 2015. Deze bovenmaatse Cru Bourgeois Haut Médoc brengt een gezonde fysiek, diepte en complexiteit die absoluut iedereen "charmailleert"!
