Wijnen

Prachtwijn van Baptiste en Julie Guinaudeau. 56% Merlot geplukt op 3 en 7 oktober 2014 en 44% Cabernet Franc geplukt op 8 oktober 2014. Voor het eerst worden de nieuwe wijnstokken gebruikt die afkomstig zijn van het legendarische Lafleur. Dit is de zesde editie van G of "Acte 6" zoals ze het noemen. Deze nieuwe Grand Vin van de Rechteroever, is een aanwinst in ons assortiment sinds 2009.

The 2014 Acte 6 is clearly a level up on the nose compared to the Acte 5 with fine delineation: blackberry, hints of blueberry and crushed stone, very focused and delineated. It is like a camera lens being adjusted so that the image becomes clear. There is just a bit more class and nobility. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fresh and vibrant with a harmonious smooth texture. I find the oak is very well integrated and the finish vivacious, detailed and demonstrating more tension than previous vintages. This is going to be fascinating to observe over the next few years. Superb. Tasted at the Acte vertical in London. Drink 2019-2029.

The 2014 G Acte 6 showed extremely well when I tasted it from barrel. Now in bottle, it has a compelling bouquet with cranberry, potpourri and light incense aromas, just a hint of bell pepper emanating from the Cabernet Franc. The palate is medium-bodied with with firm tannin, superb salinity, fine focus and real precision on the (still) slightly chalky finish. This is well worth hunting down. Baptiste Guinaudeau told me that it is the first "Acte" that he is proud of, and I can understand why. Drink 2018-2028.

The "G" Acte 6 is a blend of 56% Merlot and 44% Cabernet Franc picked between the 3 and 8 October. It takes time to coalesce in the glass, just a little muddled at first, but settling down nicely with undergrowth and dried herb scents infusing the black fruit. The palate is where it's at...some lovely ripe, bell pepper-tinged Cabernet Franc (bolstered and ameliorated by a sélection massale from Lafleur). The finish is structured and a little chalky in the mouth, but full of tension and vigor. If Lafleur is beyond your financial means, like most of us, then I would head straight here.

Guinaudeau

Jacques en Sylvie Guinaudeau en nu hun zoon en schoondochter, Baptiste en Julie, staan aan het roer van Lafleur. In Pomerol staat deze legendarische wijngaard bekend als «le vignoble-jardin ». Lafleur is eigendom van hun familie sinds 1872, één jaar na de stichting van Vyncke-Daels…

Lafleur is een mythe en één van de allergrootste wijnen van Bordeaux. Hij is diep, intens, karaktervol en cerebraal. Omwille van zijn zeer beperkte productie (om en bij de duizend kistjes) is het cult- en knuffelgehalte bij verzamelaars wereldwijd bijzonder hoog. Naast Petrus heeft Lafleur waarschijnlijk het mooiste terroir van Pomerol, ook al rekent Lafleur voor 65% op Cabernet Franc om de droom werkelijkheid te maken; bij Petrus draait het om 100% Merlot. Samen brengen ze de allerbeste Pomerols en dat met de regelmaat van een klok.

Julie en Baptiste wonen op Lafleur, en Sylvie en Jacques op Grand Village in Mouillac nabij Fronsac (ze maken er een knappe rode en een vibrante witte Bordeaux). Op de weg tussen Grand Village en Lafleur startten ze in 2009 een nieuw avontuur met "G de Guinaudeau" die ze graag bestempelen als "een grote wijn in wording". Onlangs werkten ze zelfs met Sauvignon Blanc druivenstokken uit Sancerrre om een piepkleine productie witte wijn te maken die de naam kreeg « Les Champs Libres ».

Het mag tegenstrijdig lijken maar de familie Guinaudeau zijn perfectionisten met een laissez-faire attitude. Hun inborst en werkwijze toont hoe je het hoogste niveau kan bereiken van op drie verschillende terroirs.
