Breed en volmondig, zacht en gul. Sénéjac heeft misschien geen Grand Vin ambities, maar biedt in méér gelegenheden het plezier dat we zoeken. Het is een Haut Médoc die smaakt naar meer, zoals het hoort. Het team achter Château Talbot maakt deze wijn op de gemeente Arsac in Haut Médoc, net buiten de Margaux appellatie. 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc en 4% Petit Verdot. Excellente verhouding prijs-kwaliteit-plezier.

The 2015 Senejac is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. It has a pure, black cherry, pastille-like bouquet with touches of melted tar and licorice. The palate is well balanced with dry, rather masculine tannin on the entry, a good line of acidity, fresh and nicely proportioned with cedar and tobacco furnishing the long finish. This is a well-crafted, capable Sénéjac that deserves 5-6 years in bottle, and I expect it to land at the top of my banded score. Drink: 2020-2035.

This shows density and structure for a 2015 with ripe tannins and bright fruit character. Full body. Chewy texture. Extremely well done for Médoc.

The 2015 Sénéjac has developed nicely over the last two years, although it remains a wine built on floral/savory aromatics and midweight structure. Sweet red berry, tobacco, mint and licorice add shades of nuance to this decidedly understated Haut-Médoc. I had hoped the 2015 would fill out a bit during its aging, but that has not happened. The blend is 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Drink 2018-2027.

The 2015 Sénéjac is soft, floral and quite pretty. The 2015 offers lovely up front fruit, but then loses some persistence on the mid-palate and finish. Silky tannins give the wine much of its feminine, gracious personality. Tasted two times.

Talbot

Talbot is wereldwijd befaamd en één van de de sterkste "brands" in Bordeaux. Bovendien is zijn prijs doorgaans vrij redelijk in primeur en stijgt zijn waarde over de jaren. Deze omvangrijke wijngaard van 104 hectare is één van de meest standvastige Saint Julien geklasseerd in 1855. De familie Cordier vierde in 2018 een eeuw aanwezigheid als eigenaar. Ze stelden een dreamteam samen met Jean Michel Laporte als directeur (sinds 2018) en zowel Stéphane Derenoncourt als Eric Boissenot als consulenten. 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot en 4% Petit Verdot. De naam Talbot verwijst naar de Connétable Talbot, een Engelse militair en "gouverneur de Guyenne", die op beiaarde leeftijd verslaan werd door de Fransen tijdens de legendarische "bataille de Castillon" in 1453. De familie is ook eigenaar van Sénéjac in Haut Médoc.
