La Fleur-Pétrus lijkt “aérien”: hij presenteert immense, allesomvattende densiteit in een bijzonder charmant en luchtig geheel. Daarom alleen al is deze zo opmerkelijke Pomerol haast niet te evenaren. Hij is geniaal in dit schijnbaar gemak waarmee hij zoveel intensiteit en persoonlijkheid brengt. Het rijpe (door Merlot gedomineerd) assemblage brengt glorierijke tonaliteiten van rood en zwart fruit, tabak en truffelschilfers. De finesse en “tension” waarmee de proefervaring zich voortbeweegt herinnert aan een “littlle black dress” in Vogue of de mythische Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”; élégantissime, haast dilitant en o zo fijn. La Fleur-Pétrus onderschatten doe je altijd op eigen risico: zijn alle pluspunten van 2015 niet vervat in die ene wijn?

The 2015 La Fleur-Pétrus has a very intense bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, truffle and smoke, quite decadent and yet retaining satisfying delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red fruit, gentle grip with a dash of white pepper toward the persistent finish. This is suave and sophisticated - superb. The 2015 la Fleur-Petrus has tightened up since I tasted it in barrel, now a more linear, very focused, not austere but maybe conservative bouquet that may already be shutting up shop after bottling. But there is purity here and wonderful mineralité. The palate is more open: concentrated blackberry and boysenberry fruit, white pepper, clove and a touch of curry leaf. This has substance in spades, enormous depth with a persistent and satisfying finish. This is destined to be a great la Fleur-Petrus. Anticipated maturity: 2023 - 2050.

The 2015 La Fleur Petrus is a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, having absorbed Château Guillot back in 2012. It has a clean and precise bouquet with ebullient red cherry, blackcurrant and cold stone aromas that are very succinct. There is nothing showy here, but it is very refined and graceful. The palate is very well balanced with succulent ripe tannin, clean and precise, lightly spiced red fruit with outstanding focus and tension on the finish. This La Fleur Petrus has an effortless cool about it. I am sure it will be wondrous once in bottle. Drink: 2023-2050.

What a wine! Scented, subtle and very fine, this is a poised, nuanced triumph. Deceptively easy to drink, even now, it has the concentration, acidity and fine-grained tannnins for a long life. Like the 2014, this is a wine that will taste beautifully at every stage of its development. Just try to keep your hands off it. Drink: 2025-2040.
La Fleur PétrusLa Fleur Pétrus is cultwijn voor ‘s werelds fijnste neuzen en collectionneurs. Vooral sinds 1998 stijgt de kwaliteit gestaag met 2010 als voorlopig hoogtepunt. De wijngaard heeft op vandaag een critische massa van 18,7 hectare, beplant met 90% Merlot en 10% Cabernet Franc. Er wordt 40 à 50% nieuwe eik gebruikt. De productie bereikt zo’n 3.750 kisten per jaar. De eigenaars zijn Christian en Edouard Moueix en de wijnmaker is Eric Murisasco. Het Château produceert geen tweede wijn.
Er zijn sporen van het gehucht Lafleur in 1289, maar de wijngaard werd pas gedoopt in het midden van de XIXde Eeuw door de eigenaarsfamilie Arnaud, die ook Petrus bezat. Sinds de legendarische Jean-Pierre Moueix in 1953 La Fleur Petrus kocht, startte een stille revolutie die Pomerol tot de wereldtop bracht. In 1994 voegde zijn zoon Christian daar “une délicieuse butte graveleuse” van Le Gay aan toe, dat centraal gelegen was op het plateau. Kleinzoon Edouard kocht enkele hectare “Graves profondes” bij, gelegen nabij Le Pin, ten Zuiden van het plateau. Providence, een wijngaard aangekocht in 2005, wordt voortaan ook selectief opgenomen in het ensemble. Sluitstuk werd een perceel nabij de kerk van Pomerol en een bijhorend, elegant gebouw dat vanaf juli 2013 het nieuw Château La Fleur Pétrus werd. Op enkele jaar tijd groeide La Fleur Pétrus van 9 tot 18,7 hectare en werd zo een toonaangevende entiteit binnen Pomerol. Met de edele “blauwe” kleigronden van Petrus als tegenpool, moet La Fleur Pétrus de vaandeldrager worden van de Graves van Pomerol. MoueixChristian Moueix is net zoals zijn legendarische vader, Jean-Pierre Moueix, vereenzelvigd met Pomerol. Na zijn studies aan UC Davis eind de jaren 1960, vervoegde hij de Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix waarvan hij de leiding nam. Zijn zoon Edouard staat nu aan zijn zijde. Hij bestuurt een indrukwekkend imperium dat ondermeer La Fleur Pétrus, Trotanoy en Hosanna omvat in Pomerol, Bélair Monange in Saint Emilion en Dominus in Napa Valley. In 2008 werd hij “Decanter Man of the Year”. |
