Trotanoy 2015 is een gigant. Het staal spreekt voor zich: bijzonder intens en zo mogelijk nog meer gepolijst en voorzien van nog méér densiteit, diepte en lengte dan in andere grote wijnjaren. De finale is ontzagwekkend. Het geheel is fabuleus en zal dit blijven voor véle, véle (tientallen) jaren. Dit lijkt als “vin de garde” wel de epitomie van 2015 te zijn in weelderigheid en precisie.
Het vertrouwde Trotanoy vervoert ons dus in 2015 naar een andere dimensie, maar blijft naadloos en precies gevinifiëerd. Kortom, het is één van de meest flamboyante en grootste wijnen van het jaar, die vele Pomerols (noem er maar enkele) het nakijken geeft.
We beleefden plezier met dit jong vatstaal. Trotanoy 2015 is een WallyPower 118 yacht die in een klein uurtje van Monaco naar Portofino vaart met de elegantie van antieke J-class America’s Cup zeilboot! Bravo…

The 2015 Trotanoy has generous black cherry, blackberry, briary and white pepper aromas on the nose that seem to envelop the senses. There is just a hint of autumn bonfire in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fresh and nicely poised. A dash of spice toward the peppery finish, hints of Chinese five-spice on the aftertaste. This is a serious and quite compelling Trotanoy for long-term aging, but hey, what's new? Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

The 2015 Trotanoy has an intense bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, still with a little new oak to be subsumed but there is wonderful delineation here with hints of bay leaf and smoke emerging with time. The palate is grippy on the entry. This is a Pomerol with great backbone and structure and yet there is also wondrous delineation and complexity, a crescendo of flavor with black truffle and allspice emerging toward the persistent finish. Outstanding. Anticipated maturity: 2023 - 2055.

The 2015 Trotanoy is a blend of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. It has a fragrant bouquet, unusually understated and introverted for Trotanoy, with tightly wound, gravel-scented black fruit, touches of dried orange peel and truffle in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, tensile tannin. Again, this feels compact, dense, a coiled spring perhaps, but there is plenty of energy here. Perhaps in the long-term, the Hosanna and the La Fleur Petrus might be the picks from JP Moueix in this great Pomerol vintage, but Trotanoy always springs a surprise once in bottle. Trotanoy - an enigma eternal, but we would not want it any other way. Drink: 2022-2045.

In 2015, Trotanoy captures all the intensity of the year in its ample, full-bodied frame, and yet there is more than enough structure, energy and minerality to play off the wine's more overt leanings. A rush of black cherry, plum, graphite, leather, smoke and game punctuate the huge, tannic finish. What a wine! Drink 2025-2065.

Composed of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Trotanoy reveals a medium to deep garnet-purple color and comes prancing out of the glass with the most striking black fruit preserves, plum pudding, red currant jelly and blueberry compote notions, followed up by nuances of rose petals, chocolate box, licorice and menthol plus a waft of wild mushrooms. Full-bodied, rich and decadent, it fills the palate with generous perfumed black and blue fruit layers with a seductive frame of velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and very minerally. The aroma of this wine is so enticing that you want to dab some behind your ears. Floral, leafy and very pure, with deftly interwoven oak, succulent tannins, balancing acidity and lots of dark plum and bramble fruit. Fresh, yet extremely well structured. Drink: 2025-2040.
TrotanoyHet basisbeginsel dat Trotanoy leidt is superlatieve majesteit. In zijn zelfzekere en beredeneerde stijl, vertoont het de absolute perfectie die slechts enkele Grands Vins kunnen bereiken.
Trotanoy is oud Frans voor « trop anoi » of « trop ennuie » (waarmee verwezen wordt naar de lastige bodembewerking). De wijngaard van zo'n 7,2 hectare is één van de best georiënteerde percelen van Pomerol en is sinds 1953 eigendom van Ets Jean-Pierre Moueix. De bodems kunnen we opsplitsen in enerzijds graves rustend op klei en anderzijds "argiles noires profondes". Beide rusten op een substraat van "crasse de fer" die de wijnen zowel kracht, diepte als complexiteit bezorgen. De wijngaard bleef gedeeltelijk gespaard van de grote vorst die Bordeaux teisterde in de nacht van 19 op 20 februari 1956 en benadert een gemiddelde leeftijd van 35-40 jaar. Hij wordt over het algemeen geplukt over drie halve dagen. De vinificatie gebeurt in ciment en de élevage in de helft nieuwe eik. Trotanoy is uiterst begerenswaardig en grote millésimes mogen vele decennia lang worden gekelderd. Er worden jaarlijks slechts zo’n 2.000 kistjes gemaakt.
Trotanoy zet een indrukwekkende reeks prachtige millésimes verder. Trotanoy 2005 tot 2012 rivaliseren telkens met Pétrus. Geen enkele Pomerol, tenzij misschien Lafeur, kan deze status ambiëren. Vroeger, tussen 1960 en 1975, was dit al het geval en nu dus opnieuw... MoueixChristian Moueix is net zoals zijn legendarische vader, Jean-Pierre Moueix, vereenzelvigd met Pomerol. Na zijn studies aan UC Davis eind de jaren 1960, vervoegde hij de Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix waarvan hij de leiding nam. Zijn zoon Edouard staat nu aan zijn zijde. Hij bestuurt een indrukwekkend imperium dat ondermeer La Fleur Pétrus, Trotanoy en Hosanna omvat in Pomerol, Bélair Monange in Saint Emilion en Dominus in Napa Valley. In 2008 werd hij “Decanter Man of the Year”. |
