De Barolo Castiglione is de vaandeldrager in het brede gamma Baroli van Vietti, één van de meest toonaangevende Cantina's van Piemonte. De Castiglione is een selectie gemaakt over verschillende sectoren van de Barolo appellatie (Castiglione Falletto, Monforte, Barolo en Novello) en kost ongeveer een kwart in vergelijking met de "Single Crus". De complexiteit en diepte van deze cuvée is nochtans ronduit onwezenlijk. Elk millésime overtreft de verwachtingen en krijgt steevast een consensus van alle critici achter zich. Het is een grote bewaarwijn die vele jaren blijft stralen, ook al is hij jong al zo mooi... Voeg daaraan toe dat 2013 een prachtjaar is voor Piemonte; voor Luca Currado het beste (van de 28!) dat hij vinifieerde. Dit is heel natuurlijk een onweerstaanbaar aanbod! De bijzonder expressieve neus is volgestouwd met rijpe kersjes, gerookte en kruidige tonaliteiten. In de mond komt hij stevig gestructureerd uit de hoek, maar het fruit is zo hemels dat de tannine pas later lijken op te draven. Sensorieel leeft er van alles in een zuiver, elegant geheel met rijkelijk en smakelijk fruit. Dit is een bijzonder opmerkelijk: je kan er nu al van genieten, maar weet hij zal verbluffen op de langere termijn. Dark cherry, plum, spice, new leather and menthol are all used together. Intense and voluptuous, the Castiglione shows the richer, more intense side of the vintage. Time in the glass helps release the aromatics and the brighter side of Nebbiolo. This is the estate's bread and butter Barolo. Fruit is sourced throughout the Castiglione Falletto township. The wine is consistent and steady, offering amazing value and quality with each new release. The nose is generous and full. It imparts fresh fruit and dark cherry aromas with tar, smoke and licorice at the back. Evident structure gives the wine a firm backbone and will carry it through the next decade of cellar aging. Fine earthy nose, but right now quite backward. Succulent palate with a powerful tannic structure. Really long and a little vibrant. Firm, long red-fruit finish.
