That's it!

The 2017 Latour à Pomerol has a well defined and focused bouquet with expressive blackberry, briary, truffle and light loamy aromas that gradually unfurl in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Yet there is good backbone here. A lightly spiced Pomerol with hints of white pepper, sage and clove, lead to a structured finish that exerts satisfying grip. This should age well in bottle and may ultimately deserve a higher score. Drink 2022-2045.

The 2017 Latour à Pomerol has a fragrant bouquet with vivacious red cherry and crushed strawberry scents, a touch of dried violet petals and an underlying citrus note that becomes more prominent with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry, fine mineralité and density with a structured, quite masculine yet fresh finish that lingers in the mouth. Could this be the dark horse from J-P Moueix? It is not the most winsome of barrel samples that I tasted from Pomerol and yet I admire its density. Its sullenness is perversely quite compelling!

The 2017 Latour à Pomerol is a gorgeous wine that is at once deep and yet also super-expressive in its bouquet. Sweet tobacco, dried herbs, mint, pepper and spice give the 2017 striking aromatic presence to play off a core of ripe red cherry fruit. Medium in body yet wonderfully deep and fleshy, the 2017 has so much to offer. I like it as much from bottle as I did from barrel. Drink 2025-2047.

The 2017 Latour à Pomerol is dense, powerful and quite rich in feel. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, licorice, new leather and tobacco add aromatic intrigue, but it is the wine's huge center of fruit and structure that stand out most. There is a real weight and sense of gravitas to the Latour à Pomerol in 2017. I loved it. Tasted two times.

This doesn't quite possess the acidity-tannin-fruit triumvirate that it did in 2016 and 2015. They have extracted well but powerfully, and it sits a little brutally through the mid-palate. It will clearly age well, and is expertly restrained on the finish, but favours power over joy.

Deep garnet-purple in color and composed of 100% Merlot, the 2017 Latour à Pomerol leaps from the glass with expressive scents of baked plums, warm black cherries and boysenberries with wafts of fallen leaves, bouquet garni and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating, muscular black fruits with a firm backbone of rounded tannins and a long, minerally finish. Drink 2022-2047.

The deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Latour à Pomerol is 100% Merlot with pretty notions of red roses, potpourri and lavender over a core of red currants, black cherries and blueberries plus hints of baking spices and forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied and grainy with approachable tannins, invigorating freshness and bags of fruit, finishing on a spicy note.
92-93 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (Maart 2018)
A very pretty and solid 2017 with chewy tannins and clean and focused fruit. Compacted and tight. Shows excellent potential.
16,5-17/20 Julia Harding MW – jancisrobinson.com (April 2018)
Deep crimson. Fragrant with dark-red fruit, smells a little creamy. On the palate, dark, savoury and chewy, with dark-chocolate flavour and nicely dry texture. Tannins are definite and very fine. Lovely dark finish and persistence.

In 2008 werd hij “Decanter Man of the Year”. | |
