Exuberant en zijdezacht vanaf de attaque en evenwichtig over de gehele, verfijnde lijn. Het pittig en krokant fruit in de neus vinden we met coherentie terug op de tong. De sensoriële reis verloopt naadloos. Zijn troeven? De kwaliteit van het fruit (cassis en zwarte kersjes op zoete, cremeuze vanille), de gepolijste zachte tannine en de magisch omlijnde frisheid. Het lijkt wel een perfect bestuurde Aston Martin DB5 die de Stelvio bergpas verkent. Eén van de wijnen van het jaar! 70% Merlot en 30% Cabernet Franc op 4,5 hectare blauwe klei op een rode graves rijk aan ijzeroxide.

The 2017 Hosanna was one of my favourite crus from Ets J-P Moueix from barrel. Now in bottle, it remains a delightful Pomerol. It has a generous and beautifully defined bouquet with ample red cherry, crushed strawberry and light black truffle aromas that are actually reminiscent of Bélair-Monange. The palate is medium-bodied but denser, thicker than its peers. There is real substance to this Hosanna that puts the relatively lightweight Certan-de-May in its place. It shows good grip with a saline finish. This is a deeply impressive Hosanna. Rejoice! Drink 2023-2048.

The 2017 Hosanna has a sophisticated and quite beguiling bouquet that continues what I feel is a more cerebral take on the vineyard, earlier vintages being a little too ostentatious for my liking. This exudes panache and the oak here is seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, enormous depth, harmonious and silky smooth in texture to the point where you almost overlook the power towards the finish. There is something ambitious about this Hosanna and it will surely age tremendously over the next 20 years. This vies with Trotanoy as one of the most enticing offerings from J-P Moueix this year. Drink 2023-2048.

The 2017 Hosanna is a virile wine, just as it was en primeur, but it also comes across as a bit light in texture relative to the norm. Today, the Franc aromatics are quite expressive. Dried herbs, chocolate, lavender, mint and licorice lead into sweet purplish berry fruit in this unusually restrained Hosanna. Drink 2025-2042.

The 2017 Hosanna is a big, deep wine, as it often is, and yet it also comes across as more delicate and translucent than is typically the case. Plush contours and silky tannins add to the wine's racy, voluptuous feel. In two separate tastings Hosanna was quite subdued, but that is not necessarily a bad thing for this typically exuberant, bold Pomerol. Hosanna is always a soloist, never an orchestra.

No frost and an early-budding year allowed the fruit to ripen well on this 4.5ha clay and gravel estate. The coolish but dry summer still translates into fruit character that is powerful rather than exuberant, but it's well handled and extremely enjoyable, restrained but rather beautiful. The tight tannins will need a good six years before drinking.

Made from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Hosanna is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and sashays out of the glass with beautiful red rose and violets scents over a core of baked blueberries, mulberries and plum preserves plus wafts of vanilla pod and cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed full of perfumed black and blue fruits, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and fragrant. Drink 2022-2053.

A final blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Hosanna is deep garnet-purple in color with a nose that simply sings of violets, chocolate-covered cherries and exotic spices with a core of crème de cassis, fragrant earth and blueberry pie plus a waft of wild thyme. The palate is medium to full-bodied, velvety, rich and seductive with tons of black and blue fruit layers, finishing with those exotic spices coming through.

One of the gems of the vintage, the 2017 Hosanna checks in as 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, all from the clay, gravelly, iron-rich soils of the estate in Pomerol. It’s a gorgeously ripe, sexy red that boasts a deep purple color as well as a sensational bouquet of cassis, black raspberries, crushed flowers, and spice, with more and more floral and mineral notes developing with time in the glass. Full-bodied, ripe, sexy, and voluptuous on the palate, with sweet tannin, it's an opulent, straight-up rockstar of a wine.

HosannaHosanna werd op korte tijd een ikoon. Het ontstond in 1999 uit het beste perceel van 4,5 hectare van het voormalige Certan Guiraud, waarvan 3,5 in productie in 2022. De ligging, hoog op het plateau van Pomerol, is spectaculair: ten Noorden ligt Lafleur, ten Oosten Petrus en ten Zuiden Vieux Château Certan. Hosanna wordt gemeenzaam omschreven als "de Cheval Blanc van Pomerol" omwille van de 30% Cabernet Franc in de wijngaard. Het trackrecord is nu al "fameux": zo werd het ondermaats bevonden 2002 nooit te koop aangeboden en benadert de 2009 de perfectie. De lat ligt hoog…
MoueixChristian Moueix is net zoals zijn legendarische vader, Jean-Pierre Moueix, vereenzelvigd met Pomerol. Na zijn studies aan UC Davis eind de jaren 1960, vervoegde hij de Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix waarvan hij de leiding nam. Zijn zoon Edouard staat nu aan zijn zijde. Hij bestuurt een indrukwekkend imperium dat ondermeer La Fleur Pétrus, Trotanoy en Hosanna omvat in Pomerol, Bélair Monange in Saint Emilion en Dominus in Napa Valley.
