Medium to full-bodied, it delivers a quiet intensity of black fruits and restrained earthy layers supported by chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long with mineral and savory nuances. It has lovely elegance and depth. It needs another 2-3 years in bottle, then it should cellar gracefully over the next 20+ years. 1,000 cases were made. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, the color is an opaque purple and the wine has a gorgeous nose of incense, Asian spice, cedar wood, crème de cassis, a touch of blackberry and graphite. It has great fruit on the attack, a full-bodied mouthfeel, with moderately high tannin, but beautiful viscosity and purity. This is a beauty from relatively small yields and an extremely early harvest that took place over one week between September 8 and September 15. This wine will probably require 2-4 years of bottle age and will easily keep for 30 years. Dark and powerful in the glass, but with silky tannins and striking purity of fruit, the 2015 is a wonderfully complete wine. Black cherry, plum, gravel, lavender, and menthol give the 2015 many of its aromatic and flavor signatures. Readers will find much to admire in the 2015. The interplay of aromatics, fruit and structure places Ulysses among the finest wines of the vintage. Drink 2011-2040. UlyssesAan de voet van het Mayacamas gebergte in Oakville, het hart van Napa Valley, vinden we Ulysses. Dit terroir van graves, diepe klei en slib is ideaal voor wijnbouw. De site maakte deel uit van de ranch van Charles Hopper, een pionier uit het Napa Valley van de XIXde Eeuw, en werd verworven door Christian Moueix in 2008. Na verregaand onderzoek van het microklimaat en de geologie werd de wijngaard zorgvuldig herstructureerd. Uit milieuoverwegingen en ter bevordering van de natuurlijke weerstand en hittebestendigheid van de wijnstok wordt de wijngaard niet geïrrigeerd. Menselijke interventie wordt tot een minimum herleid uit respect voor het fruit. Ulysses is hoofdzakelijk Cabernet Sauvignon met toetsen van Cabernet Franc en Petit Verdot en brengt geëlanceerde, elegante en fijn geciseleerde wijnen. MoueixChristian Moueix is net zoals zijn legendarische vader, Jean-Pierre Moueix, vereenzelvigd met Pomerol. Na zijn studies aan UC Davis eind de jaren 1960, vervoegde hij de Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix waarvan hij de leiding nam. Zijn zoon Edouard staat nu aan zijn zijde. Hij bestuurt een indrukwekkend imperium dat ondermeer La Fleur Pétrus, Trotanoy en Hosanna omvat in Pomerol, Bélair Monange in Saint Emilion en Dominus in Napa Valley.
