Weinig witte wijnen in ons primeuraanbod 2018, maar deze hoogheid moest erbij. Prachtige clones van Sauvignon uit Sancerre en Sémillon uit Bordeaux worden met liefde behandeld door Baptiste en Julie Guinaudeau. 2,3 hectare. 70% Sauvignon blanc geplukt tussen 3 en 6 september en 30% Sémillon geplukt op 31 augustus en 4 september. Elevage op 30% nieuwe eik.

The 2018 Grand Village Blanc is bright and airy, with lovely creaminess and light tropical accents that are likely the result of the warm year. Lemon confit, lime, white flowers, mint and a touch of reduction round out this vibrant, wonderfully polished Blanc. Drink 2022-2028.

Creamy, dense and inviting, the 2018 Grand Village Blanc offers a terrific interplay of textural richness and aromatic intensity. The 2018 represents a slight increase in Sauvignon Blanc from Loire clones to about half of the blend. A hint of reduction adds nuance to this super-expressive white.

The Grand Village 2018 Blanc is composed of 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Sémillon. A little youthfully mute to begin, with swirling it offers delicate scents of lime leaves, chalk dust and wet pebbles over a core of lemongrass, fresh grapefruit and green apples. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly styled with savory accents to the intense citrus flavors and harmonious acidity, finishing long and chalky. Drink 2022-2029.

The Grand Village 2018 Blanc is blended of 75% Sauvignon Blanc and 25% Sémillon, with the Sauvignon harvested September 3 and 6 and the Sémillon harvested August 31 and September 4. It is a touch reductive to begin, slowly unfurling to reveal intense apricots, ripe pears, pineapple and grapefruit with hints of beeswax, musk perfume and yuzu. Medium-bodied with a satiny texture and wonderful freshness, the palate builds to a zesty crescendo.

The 2018 Le Blanc du Grand Village includes fruit from a massal selection taken from a parcel known as "acacia" that has gone into Les Champs Libres. The bouquet is very similar to its showing from barrel, featuring gorgeous, pure honeysuckle, walnut and light orange blossom scents. The palate is beautifully balanced, with subtle tropical notes (nectarine and passion fruit) and gooseberry commingling with a dab of ginger on the finish. Excellent. Drink 2021-2030.

The 2018 Le Blanc du Grand Village now includes a new parcel called Mathilda that is cultivated with Sauvignon Blanc previously used for the Guinaudeaus’s Les Champs Libres. The delightful bouquet of orange blossom, white peach and noisette aromas seems pure and refined. The palate is fresh on the entry, offering Golden Delicious apple, subtle nectarine, pawpaw and hints of stem ginger, and quite complex compared to previous vintages. This had been bottled in mid-June 2019. Drink 2020-2030.

Jane Anson - Top 10 affordable Bordeaux - decanter.com (28 december 2017) - Owned by the Guinaudeau family of Château Lafleur, this is becoming a don’t miss wine in the AOC Bordeaux appellation. In the family for centuries, it’s only been since 2000 that first Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau and now son Baptiste and daughter-in-law Julie have been in charge of the winemaking, employing their legendary attention to detail, with viticulture adapted not just to each plot but each plant. They also have their grapevine nursery for massal selction of vines up here. The red is a Bordeaux Supérieur, although the grapes are almost in Fronsac (located in the tiny village of Mouillac), and in most vintages is a blend of more than 90% Merlot with the rest Cabernet Franc, vinified in cement with around 30% new oak barrels (some from Château Lafleur, or used here before heading over to Lafleur). Plummy rich fruits, well balanced, more than punches above its weight price wise.
The white wines Grand Village Blanc and especially Les Champs Libre (although this last one may be creeping above my price ceiling for this list) are also seriously stunning.
Jacques en Sylvie Guinaudeau en nu hun zoon en schoondochter, Baptiste en Julie, staan aan het roer van Lafleur. In Pomerol staat deze legendarische wijngaard bekend als «le vignoble-jardin ». Lafleur is eigendom van hun familie sinds 1872, één jaar na de stichting van Vyncke-Daels…
