Een kleihoudend terroir verleent “brede schouders” aan deze beau vin. Purper tooit het glas. De neus is rijkelijk geparfumeerd met zwarte kersjes, viooltjes en nootmuskaat. We herkennen klasse van het begin tot het einde van de proefervaring. De kern bestaat uit opulent zwart en rood fruit, terwijl rijkelijke tannine geleidelijk opbouwen en milieu de bouche. Stralende zuren begeleiden vlezige toetsen in kruidige complexiteit. De zuivere finale is beklijvend. Kracht en energie maken deze Lalande de Pomerol in 2018 opnieuw incontournable. Menig Pomerols van een kilometertje verder op, mogen blozen als ze hiermee worden vergeleken. 80% Merlot en 20% Cabernet Franc op klei en graves. De Merlot werd geplukt tussen 18 en 25 september, terwijl de Cabernet Franc mocht wachten tot 28 september. 31.500 flessen worden gebotteld. 14,50%vol. 40% nieuwe eik. Fenomenaal lekker! IN DE PERS 93 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Maart 2021) The 2018 Lés Cruzelles impressed from barrel. Now in bottle, it has developed quite a precocious, intense bouquet of blackberry and blueberry fruit, a light savory note and earthy scents emerging with time. The palate is just wonderful: exquisitely balanced, quite structured yet not unapproachable, the acidity perfectly judged, with a ferrous note toward the finish. This is as good a Lalande de Pomerol as you will find in this vintage. Drink 2022-2040. 92-94 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Oktober 2019) The 2018 Les Cruzelles comes from gravelly-clayey soil, the Merlot picked September 18-25 and the Cabernet Franc on September 28, and is raised in 40% new oak. It has a more opulent, higher-toned bouquet compared to the La Chenade, offering expressive blueberry and black currant fruit and becoming more floral in the glass as iris and violet emerge. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins that provide real weight and concentration to this outstanding Lalande de Pomerol. There is wonderful weight and elegance and impressive delineation toward the persistent, spicy finish. Please tell me you bought this wine when it was released earlier this year! Drink 2022-2040. 93 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Maart 2021) The 2018 Les Cruzelles is another significant wine in this range from the Durantou family. It emerges from the oldest vines the family's Lalande de Pomerol property planted on clay/gravel soils. Dark fruit, graphite, sage, menthol, dried herbs and licorice add to an impression of virile intensity. The tannins are pretty serious, just as they were from barrel. A few years of patience will be hugely rewarded. Clay/gravelly soils in this parcels give the Cruzelles a darker fruit profile and greater breadth as well as more tannic clout than its sibling. Inky, dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice all develop in the glass. This is an especially powerful, structured expression of Lalande de Pomerol, and it works beautifully. 91-92 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (April 2019) This is a firm and lightly chewy young wine with dark berries and blueberries and wet earth. Stony undertone. Full to medium body. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes bounding out of the glass with energetic scents of crushed blackberries, juicy black cherries and ripe plums, plus hints of menthol, dark chocolate and star anise. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-filling black fruits with a soft texture and bags of freshness, finishing long and lively. This was produced by the late Denis Durantou of Château L’Eglise Clinet. The 2018 Les Cruzelles is blended of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc with 40% new oak and 14.5% alcohol. Deep purple-black in color, it features slightly reduced notions of asphalt and tires over a core of warm red and black plums, blackberry pie and boysenberries with hints of fruitcake, incense and potpourri. It's medium to full-bodied, elegant, and weightless on the palate, with loads to love. Je ziet de wijngaard al van aan de achterdeur van l’Eglise Clinet. De eigenaar van deze mythische Pomerol, Denis Durantou, kocht deze wijngaard in 2000 herplantte hem naar zijn veeleisende verlangens. Les Cruzelles is steeds een sappige Pomerol-lookalike, ook al zorgt de bescheidener herkomst voor lagere prijzen. Deze hoge kwaliteit en lage prijs maakt hem tot een kleine l’Eglise Clinet voor beginners... Een grote aanrader dus! 100% Merlot in 50% nieuwe eik. Met de jongste wijnstokken maakt hij La Chenade. DurantouDenis Durantou was een geniale wijnmaker en één van de allergrootste in Bordeaux. De kleine productie van zijn Pomerol "extraordinaire" Eglise Clinet is wereldwijd gegeerd.Zijn talent bewees hij bovendien in de betaalbare wijnen die hij daarnaast maakte: van de achterdeur van l’Eglise Clinet zag Denis zijn wijngaarden van Les Cruzelles en La Chenade (Lalande de Pomerol). Verderop vinden we Saintayme (Saint Emilion) en Montlandrie (Castillon). Ze zijn allemaal heerlijk, geloofwaardig en overtuigend. Saintayme is een perceel van 35 jaar oude Merlots op klei en graves in Saint Etienne de Lisse binnen de appellatie Saint Emilion. In Lalande de Pomerol worden Les Cruzelles en La Chenade gemaakt naargelang de bodemsamenstelling en de ouderdom van de wijnstokken. De jonge wijnstokken van La Chenade (gelegen op graves) verleiden terwijl we de oudere wijnstokken van Les Cruzelles op klei en graves bodems kunnen vergelijken we goede Pomerols. Sinds de aankoop in 2000 zette Denis de wijngaard maniacaal naar zijn hand. Montlandrie in Castillon is de recentste aankoop: de 11 hectare klei en kalkgronden zijn beplant met 25 jaar oude wijnstokken (70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc of 70%, 25% en 5% Cabernet Sauvignon vanaf 2016). Buiten de erkende appellaties om, behoren deze wijnen tot de beste van Bordeaux. De tweede wijn van Eglise Clinet, La Petite Eglise, is zeldzaam met een jaarlijks productie beperkt tot zo'n 7.000 flesjes. Het levenswerk van Denis Durantou wordt verdergezet door zijn drie dochters. « Je veux continuer à faire honneur au travail de mon père », zegt Noémie die al 4 jaar vinifieert samen met Olivier Gautrat, al 20 jaar maître de chai. « À Pomerol, Je suis chez moi. J’y ai grandi, j’allais à l’école du village, je jouais dans le chai et j’ai le souvenir des odeurs… ». Constance zorgt voor 400 olijfbomen en truffeleiken. Alix volgt vanuit Parijs en is gepassioneerd door kunst en Japanse cultuur. Hun mama, kunstenares Marie Reilhac neemt deel aan de assemblages. Zeventig jaar oude Cabernet Franc wijnstokken gedijen op het perfect gedraineerd terroir van argilo-graveleux. Eglise Clinet is één van de grootste wijnen die er zijn.
