Mineraliteit in de neus, fraîcheur en rood fruit in de mond. Lafleur Gazin vertoont snit als een maatpak. De mooie touché de tannin is zuiver en het fruit blijkt krokant en rijp. Tannine bezorgt hem een stevige structuur. Het geheel is intens maar beheerst. 100% Merlot op 8,5 hectares sur limons, graves et argiles. IN DE PERS 92 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Maart 2021) The 2018 Lafleur-Gazin is a supple, easygoing Pomerol. Sweet red cherry, rose petal, mint, new leather and cedar all develop with a bit of air. Blood orange, cinnamon and spice notes come to the fore with a bit of air, adding aromatic lift. I expected to see a bit more depth, especially in the mid-palate, but the 2018 is nicely balanced and ready to offer fine drinking for the next two decades or so. Nothing really stands out, rather it is the wine's exceptional balance and overall harmony that leave a deep impression. Silky tannins wrap around a core of bright red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, mint and cinnamon in a gracious, mid-weight Pomerol that is all seduction. 94-95 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (April 2019) Another tight and solidly structured with dark-berry, chocolate and hazelnut character. Full-bodied yet reserved and polished. Serious is all I can say. 93 Jane Anson – decanter.com (April 2019) 90 Lisa Perrotti-Brown – roberparker.com (Maart 2021) Made from 100% Merlot, the 2018 Lafleur-Gazin has a medium to deep garnet-purple color, galloping out of the glass with expressive notes of baked plums, stewed black cherries and blueberry preserves, plus hints of pencil lead, iodine and dried mint. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is filled with robust black fruit preserves, framed by chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with a minty/medicinal kick. Drink 2022-2032. 91-93 Lisa Perrotti-Brown – roberparker.com (April 2019) Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Lafleur-Gazin (100% Merlot) delivers compelling scents of violets and lavender interspersed with warm plums, baked cherries and blueberry compote with suggestions of tar, sandalwood and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is reserved with lovely savory layers and a firm, grainy frame, finishing with great freshness. 91-94 James Molesworth – winespectator.com (April 2019) 92 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Maart 2021) The 2018 Lafleur-Gazin impressed me from barrel, so the question is, has that carried over now that the wine is bottled? Well, it still retains the pretty, floral bouquet of black fruit tinctured with leather and brown spice, more open than JP Moueix’s other cuvées. The well-defined palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, moderate depth, and that black truffle note now more accentuated. It comes across not unlike La Grave, but there is greater amplitude and persistence on the finish. Do check this out – it might surprise you. Drink 2023-2036. 91-93 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Oktober 2019) The 2018 Lafleur-Gazin has a more floral bouquet compared to Lagrange, scents of red berry fruit, brown spices, black truffle and leather emerge with time, quite open and forward. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit mixed with black truffle and cedar. This is a composed and harmonious Lafleur-Gazin with attractive black pepper notes appearing belatedly on the finish. This is one of the best wines that I have tasted from Lafleur-Gazin in recent years. Hij is aangeplant met 80% Merlot en 20% Cabernet Franc. De wijnstokken zijn gemiddeld 30 jaar oud. De bodemsamenstelling variëert tussen leem, graves en klei. Een traditionele werkwijze en vinificatie gekoppeld aan de diversiteit van het terroir maakt van Lafleur Gazin een typisch soepele en volmondige Pomerol. MoueixChristian Moueix is net zoals zijn legendarische vader, Jean-Pierre Moueix, vereenzelvigd met Pomerol. Na zijn studies aan UC Davis eind de jaren 1960, vervoegde hij de Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix waarvan hij de leiding nam. Zijn zoon Edouard staat nu aan zijn zijde. Hij bestuurt een indrukwekkend imperium dat ondermeer La Fleur Pétrus, Trotanoy en Hosanna omvat in Pomerol, Bélair Monange in Saint Emilion en Dominus in Napa Valley. In 2008 werd hij “Decanter Man of the Year”. |
