Hoe je het ook bekijkt: Clos René 2018 is een super Pomerol! De eerste indruk verleidt met een elegante neus. Vervolgens overtuigt de fijne, rijkelijke stijl. De tanninetextuur is succulent. 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc en 5% Malbec. Clos René is al generaties eigendom van de familie van Jean-Marie Garde. Het bouwde een excellente reputatie op standvastige kwaliteit en een zéér correcte prijszetting. Zo’n Pomerol is nuttig op zovele gelegenheden! Zolang de voorraad strekt. IN DE PERS 92+ Neal Martin – vinous.com (Maart 2021) The 2018 Clos René, for me the top-performing Pomerol within the western sector of the appellation, has a very well-defined and focused bouquet of perfumed blackberry, briary and truffle aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, fresh and tensile, leading into a classic Pomerol finish of black truffle, white pepper and light tobacco notes. This is a classy Pomerol that should age with style. Drink 2023-2040. 91-93 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Oktober 2019) The 2018 Clos René is opulent and outgoing on the nose with blackberry, boysenberry, truffle and cedar aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, plenty of cedar-infused black fruit with cracked black pepper and bay leaf towards the well defined finish. There is a touch of rusticity here, but bags of charm and it will age with style. Drink 2023-2040. 91 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Maart 2021) The 2018 Clos René is a rich, inky Pomerol. Crème de cassis, lavender, spice, chocolate, menthol and licorice are richly-textured in the glass, conveying unctuous intensity. There is still some tannin that needs to soften, but Clos René is undeniably appealing, especially for readers who enjoy a more modern style of Pomerol. Drink 2023-2033. 89-92 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (April 2019) The 2018 Clos René is a racy, boisterous wine. A rush of red/purplish berry fruit, lavender, spice and mint makes a strong first impression. Hopefully élevage will help soften some of the slightly hard edges that are present today, as the 2018 appears to have a good bit of promise.
