14,4%vol.

IN DE PERS

92 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Maart 2021)
The 2018 Haut-Bailly II is a bomb. All of the richness of the year comes through in a wine that is bursting at the seams with fruit. Dark red cherry, tobacco, cedar, mint and licorice race out of the glass. Ripeness is decidedly pushed, and yet the 2018 remains poised and impeccably balanced. Silky tannins wrap around the plush, sensual finish. Drink 2024-2043.

90-93 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (April 2019)
Deep, racy and beautifully layered in the glass, the Haut-Bailly II is a gorgeous wine in its peer group. Crushed flowers, mint, sweet tobacco, cedar and licorice all give the II lovely aromatic complexity to play off the resonant fruit. Medium in body and gracious, the II has a vertical feel that is impossible to miss.

94 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (Maart 2021)
A very elegant red. Crushed berries, some spices and earthy tones as well. It's full-bodied and structured with a balanced, velvety texture and firm tannins. Long, flavorful finale. A blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Try after 2023.

93-94 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (April 2019)
Extremely fresh and aromatic with sliced berries and hints of orange peel. Medium-bodied yet dense and deep with ripe, firm tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows energy and vibe. Solid length.

92 Jane Anson – decanter.com (April 2019)
Right from the first nose you can feel how intense this is, and certainly it's a second wine that gives you a good idea of the potential of the grand vin. It's poised and juicy, with liquorice, cassis, pencil lead, slate and the tingle of minerality that tells you that we are with Haut-Bailly here. There's a touch of austerity on the finish, not giving in to the vintage potential for being overly generous.

91 Lisa Perrotti-Brown – roberparker.com (Maart 2021)
The 2018 Haut-Bailly II—formerly known as "La Parde de Haut-Bailly"—is the second wine of Haut-Bailly, having a name change starting with this vintage. Composed of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, it has a medium to deep garnet-purple color, singing of redcurrant jelly, Black Forest cake and black raspberries, plus notes of spice cake, potpourri, incense and unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft and juicy, featuring a lovely backbone of freshness and loads of spicy sparks on the long finish. Drink 2023-2038.

91-93 Lisa Perrotti-Brown – roberparker.com (April 2019)
Haut-Bailly II is deep purple-black in color and leaps from the glass with exuberant notes of crushed blackberries, black raspberries and plum preserves plus hints of red and black currants, menthol, mocha and candied violets with a touch of cedar chest. Full-bodied, firm and very finely grained, it has bags of freshness and loads of savory sparks, finishing long and mineral tinged.

92-94 Jeb Dunnuck – jebdunnuck.com (April 2019)
Black raspberries, cherries, cassis, graphite, and spicy wood notes all emerge from this medium to full- bodied Pessac-Léognan. Rich, medium to full- bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant, it has the vintage's fresh, clean, pure character, beautiful richness, and a great finish.

91 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Maart 2021)
The 2018 Haut-Bailly II has a very endearing bouquet of mixed red and black fruit, cedar and sandalwood, plus light white pepper scents and a touch of Earl Grey, all very well defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with black olive/brine-tinged black fruit. This is a spicy Deuxième Vin from the team at Haut-Bailly, so much so that the mouth tingles with residual pepperiness for 30 seconds after it has exited. It needs 2–3 years in bottle for the tannins to soften, but it will then drink well for up to 15 years. Drink 2023-2036.

90-92 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Oktober 2019)
The 2018 Haut-Bailly II replaces the La Parde de Haut-Bailly. (Readers should note that there is a red "dot" between "Haut-Bailly" and "II") It is still a selection from the Haut-Bailly vineyard made after the fermentation. It has an elegant bouquet that needs some coaxing, delicate aromas of blackberry, mulberry, violets and a touch of mint. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy in texture with dark berry, cold black tea, white pepper and a touch of bay leaf towards the finish. Drink 2022-2036.

Black core with black-cherry rim. Intense, pure, perfectly ripe cassis on the nose. All fruit. On the palate, great depth of fruit and supple, rounded but compact tannins. Clearly the fruit had sunshine but not too much. Deep, firm, thick velvet, so smooth but dense without heaviness. Very good harmony already.

89-91 Jeff Leve – winecellarinsider.com (April 2019)
Medium bodied, floral, forward, fresh, fruity and juicy with a dark kirsch essence in the finish, you can drink this young while waiting for the Grand Vin to mature.

17/20 Weinwisser (April 2019)

92-94 Yohan Castaign – Anthocyanes (April 2019)

Samtenes, süsses, fruchtiges Bouquet, Brombeeren, schwarze Kirschen, Mocca, Lakritze. Ausgewogener, mittelkräftiger Gaumen mit feiner, süsser Frucht, feinsandigem Tannin, fein kerniger Struktur, dunkler Aromatik, langer, herber, aromatischer Abgang.

92-93 Yves Beck (April 2019)

90-92 Chris Kissack – Winedoctor (April 2019)
It is loaded with dark, fresh, floral and fragrant fruits on the nose, with praline and peony scents wrapped all around. The texture is lovely, elegant but texturally sure, with a sweetly polished gentle substance, ripe with grilled red plum and red cherry, tobacco, toasted nut and praline. The tannins are silky, svelte and correct, with a very elegant draping of rose petal and peony fruits running over the top. A lovely second wine. Well done.

92 Jacques Dupont – Vinifera

16/20 Hans Martin Gesellmann – Schweizerische Weinszeitung
Feines Bouquet, Kakao, Kirsch. Gute Dichte, saftig, zart adstringierend, gute Saüre, Himbeeren, Zwetschgen, gute Länge.

17,5/20 Matthew Jukes – matthewjukes.com (April 2019)
Very serious and very aromatic, this wine is supposed to be a reflection of the Grand Vin. It shows similar but different aromatics and fruit flavours, but it possesses all of the grandeur and intensity of the Grand Vin but without the tannin and scale. There is stunning acidity here and the fruit is a combination of plum and black cherry as opposed to cassis and this gives it an exotic edge which brings even more complexity to the whole.

Haut Bailly
