91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc en (zeldzaam in Pomerol) 3% Petit Verdot. Fantastische La Fleur Pétrus. IN DE PERS 97 Antonio Galloni - vinous.com (Maart 2021) The 2018 La Fleur-Pétrus is positively rapturous, just as it was from barrel. Mother Nature appears to have taken all the signatures of this site and turned up the volume. Loud. Rich and beautifully layered, La Fleur-Pétrus dazzles with magnificent richness and a finish that is eternal. Blood orange, mint, rose petal, spice and sweet red berry fruit build over time. I can't remember tasting a better young La Fleur-Pétrus. Give it a few years to shed some baby fat. Magnificent. Drink 2026-2058. 94-97 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (April 2019) The 2018 Lafleur-Petrus is a stunning wine. Creamy, ample and generous, the 2018 has it all. Silky tannins and bright floral notes give the 2018 an air of sophistication to play off the rich, textured fruit. As good as the 2018 is on first impression, it is also magically persistent, with an eternal finish and fabulous balance. 99 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (November 2021) Ripe black fruit, clove, licorice, pine and walnut husk on the nose. Bitter chocolate and coffee, too. It’s full-bodied with firm, tight tannins. Muscular and very formed. Energetic and precise with long, chewy layers and lots of depth, structure and polish. Superb. Needs time. Try from 2026. 97-98 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (April 2019) This is a tannic and structured red with loads of walnut, hazelnut, dark-berry and wet-earth character. Full-bodied yet tight and reserved. Muscular and beautifully formed. 96 Jane Anson – decanter.com (April 2019) This is extremely good quality - intense, concentrated, inky but not a wine to rush. It takes its time in the glass, with the floral aromatics only beginning to curl out after five minutes before revealing an obvious supple and rich texture alongside fruit that packs a punch, so densely knitted together it feels as though you're walking across a bed of blackcurrants. The wine shows the ambitions of this property but things are not as effortless as in the brilliant 2016 from La Fleur Petrus - my guess is that the gravel soils suffered just a touch more than usual in the heat of the summer. 3.9pH. Drinking Window 2026 - 2040. 97+ Lisa Perrotti-Brown – roberparker.com (Maart 2021) A blend of 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2018 la Fleur-Petrus has a medium garnet-purple color and a slightly closed-down nose to begin, soon unfurling to reveal earthy notions of black truffles, mossy tree bark and damp soil, over a core of plum preserves, wild blueberries and redcurrants, plus a fragrant waft of menthol lilacs. The medium to full-bodied palate has the most gorgeous, velvety texture with well-knit freshness giving lift to the densely packed black fruit and earthy layers, finishing with a beguiling perfume. Stunning. Give it a good 3-4 years in bottle and drink it over the next 30 years or more. Drink 2025-2055. 94-96 Lisa Perrotti-Brown – roberparker.com (April 2019) Composed of 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 la Fleur-Petrus has a medium garnet-purple color and opens softly and quietly with perfumed nuances of violets, potpourri, underbrush and garrigue with a core of warm plums, blueberry compote and raspberry pie plus touches of smoked meats and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied, the palate is charged with wonderfully energetic red and black fruits, framed by fine-grained tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing beautifully fragrant. 96-99 James Molesworth – winespectator.com (April 2019) A brick house, featuring steeped currant and plum fruit, scored by tobacco, bay leaf and charcoal notes. A great tug of earth lurks underneath, but there's plenty of fruit to handle it. This is a big one. 95-97 Jeb Dunnuck – jebdunnuck.com (April 2019) The 2018 Château La Fleur-Petrus checks in as a blend of 91% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. It's another inky colored beauty that boasts full-bodied richness and depth as well as thrilling notes of crème de cassis, kirsch, dried flowers, incense, and spice. With subtle background oak, flawless balance, and ultra-fine tannins, this brilliant effort will be drinkable with just short-term cellaring and keep for two decades or more. 94 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Maart 2021) The 2018 La Fleur-Pétrus has a wonderful bouquet that exceeds my expectations, featuring black-truffle-infused black fruit and those juniper berries I noticed out of barrel, all beautifully defined and seeming to blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. There is a slightly granular texture on the entry, matched with a fine bead of acidity. Very harmonious. A pinch of salted licorice appears toward the finish, which might lag behind both Trotanoy and Hosanna in terms of complexity, but delivers impressive persistence. Drink 2023-2045. 92-94 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Oktober 2019) The 2018 La Fleur-Pétrus has a gorgeous, ravishing bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, black truffle, juniper and bay leaf, all beautifully defined. It is almost decadent, but it is very delineated and in no way seems over-powering. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe and "solid" tannins, wonderful acidity and pure black, truffle infused fruit. Where it just falls a little short is towards the finish, which does not possess the complexity and sophistication of the 2018 Trotanoy tasted alongside. Maybe an unfair comparison, but it is still bloody good. Drink 2023-2045. 17,5-18/20 Bettane & Desseauve (April 2019) 97 Jean-Marc Quarin – quarin.com (April 2019) 94-96 Roger Voss – wineenthusiast.com (April 2019) 16,5-17,5/20 Revue des Vins de France – rvf.com (April 2019) 97-99 Jeff Leve – winecellarinsider.com (April 2019) 16,5-17/20 Le Point (April 2019) 18,5+/20 Matthew Jukes – matthewjukes.com (April 2019) (91 Merlot, 6 Cabernet Franc, 3 Petit Verdot) What a wine! The volume of fruit and the amplitude of flavour both start off on maximum impact and then they don’t drop in the slightest until the very end of the finish. This wine is packed with incredible energy and this force of character and flavour is breath-taking. The length is amazing and the whole experience shows that this label is on top form in 2018. In 2008 werd hij “Decanter Man of the Year”. |
