VOLGENS EBEN SADIE
We picked the Cinsaut grapes in the Pofadder vineyard quite early again. Cinsaut has big berries and only minor dehydration leads to shrivelling and jam flavours. This is the most refined version we have bottled to date and seems to be the wine that will need the longest time to develop. The strawberry and unripe cherry flavours are dominating the aromas currently, but the texture and mouth feel is very elegant on the palate, with the usual tannin backbone which is typical of Cinsault. It is a very serious wine.

IN DE PERS

96 Neal Martin – vinous.com (November 2019)
The 2018 Pofadder in Eben Sadie’s Cinsault from Swartland. This is complex and intellectual, yet utterly compelling, with beautifully detailed brambly red berry fruit, fennel, thyme and fynbos scents that blossom with aeration. The very detailed palate displays filigreed tannins, incredible focus and arresting purity through to the lightly spiced finish. This is one of the best from Sadie this vintage. Drink 2021-2045.

91 Anthony Muelller – The Wine Advocate Issue # 245 – roberparker.com (Oktober 2019)
The 2018 Old Vine Series Pofadder begins with a lighter floral expression with tart red fruits, with a tightly knit firm rocky core. On the palate, the wine is tightly structured with rigidity and rusticity, showing a serious wine, with flavors of cranberry and cherries skin that grip the tongue. Medium-bodied and with bright acidity, the red-fruited finish lingers long with taut mineral tension. For a lighter wine, it is cellar-worthy and incredibly food-friendly.

Tim James – winemag.co.za (Juli 2019)
Picked even earlier than 2017. 85% whole cluster fermentation. Lovely light perfume, pretty. Very bright and light, subtle fruit. Very interesting, quite serious, but lightweight by its own standards. Some charm but less than usual; an austere, young grippiness. Powdery dry tannin.  Aged in big conical oak. Cleared off lees earlier than usual, like Soldaat. Cinsaut seems to have suffered most from the drought, but this is still a good wine, though I think for drinking quite early.
