Tijd om Côte de Baleau weer aan boord te nemen. We proefden de 2019 met eigenaar Mathieu Cuvelier op Clos Fourtet en houden van zijn gulle persoonlijkheid. Deze flatterende Merlot op een drie-ledig terroir van sables, argiles et calcaire biedt al het mogelijke plezier waarvoor het gemaakt werd. Voorlopig zijn 7 van de 19 hectare in heraanplanting, maar de kleine productie is van een heerlijk hoog niveau. Mathieu's bedoeling is om Grand Cru Classé niveau te bieden aan een betaalbare instapprijs en slaagt daar wonderwel in. We bedankten hem in uw naam. De nota's van Neal Martin en Antonio Galloni kloppen en vertolken helemaal onze zienswijze. IN DE PERS 94 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Februari 2022) The 2019 Côte de Baleau takes quite a few minutes to settle in the glass. It has a very concentrated bouquet of black cherries, mulberry, touches of licorice and hints of graphite. The medium-bodied palate offers sappy black fruit and fine definition. Very focused, with a sensual and substantial finish. Superb. Drink 2024-2050. 93-95 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Juni 2020) The 2019 Côte de Baleau is more opulent on the nose than some of its peers: exuberant, plush redcurrant and Morello cherries, though with aeration it adds more blackberry and subtle marine aromas, a bit of moorland peat even. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but sturdy tannins. This feels cohesive, almost clinical, especially towards the impressively precise and mineral-driven finish. I cannot recall a Côte de Baleau with this degree of terroir expression. Bon vin! Drink 2024-2050. 93 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Februari 2022) The 2019 Côte de Baleau is classy, super-polished and ready to offer pleasure. Bright floral and spice accents lead into a core of sweet red/purplish berry fruit, spice, mocha, tobacco, licorice and incense. The 2019 has gained a bit of weight in élevage, but it remains gracious and understated in bearing. I loved it. Drink 2024-2034. 91-93 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Juni 2020) The 2019 Côte de Baleau is a very petty, gracious wine. Lifted aromatics play nicely off of the wine's mid-weight structure. There is plenty to like in this distinctive, accessible Saint-Émilion. As always, Côte de Baleau is a wine of understatement; the 2019 is especially classy. 89-91+ Lisa Perrotti-Brown – robertparker.com (Juni 2020) Displaying an opaque purple color, the 2019 Cote de Baleau bursts with plum preserves, baked blackberries and blueberry pie scents plus nuances of mocha, bouquet garni, tapenade and woodsmoke. De wijngaard van 8ha bestaat voornamelijk uit Merlot (70%) aangevuld met Cabernet Franc en Cabernet Sauvignon in gelijke verhoudingen. In april 2013 verkocht Sophie Fourcade het aan de familie Cuvelier van Clos Fourtet. Zij brachten sindsdien de installaties up to date. Dit behoort overduidelijk tot de Saint Emilions met de allerbeste verhouding prijs-kwaliteit-plezier...CuvelierPhilippe Cuvelier kocht het befaamde Clos Fourtet in 2001. Samen met zijn zoon Matthieu kocht hij ondertussen Poujeaux in Moulis, maar ook Grandes Murailles en Côte de Baleau in Saint Emilion. Ze bezitten in minderheidsaandeel in Clos Saint Martin. |
