Deze diep robijnrode Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé maakte grote indruk met kruidigheid en fruitige tonaliteiten van zwarte kersjes en pruim over poivre de kampot en vanille. La Clotte is zoals gebruikelijk ambitieux, geconcentreerd en volmondig: grootse tannine siert de mond en bezorgt gravitas aan het smakelijke en complexe geheel. Zijn accenten van bosvruchten blijven kruidig en ziltig en dat tot in de exquise finale. Ambitie weerhoudt deze baby-Ausone er echter niet van goed aan te sluiten bij het beeld dat het wijnjaar 2019 voor ons ophangt: er is fraîcheur! 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon en 5% Cabernet Franc. De élevage zal 18 maand in beslag nemen. In 2019 worden slechts 7.000 van de 10.000 te bottelen flessen vrijgegeven. Pauline Vauthier levert met La Clotte een grote, maar zeldzame bewaarwijn! It has a complex bouquet of detailed red berry fruit, wild hedgerow, crushed stone and wilted rose petal aromas, engaging and (for the vintage) understated. The palate is medium-bodied, ripe and beautifully poised, with pliant tannins and a judicious touch of spice. This builds wonderfully in the mouth and feels elegant and refined, almost Burgundian on the finish. Wonderful. Savory and potent, with terrific depth, La Clotte is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. It doesn’t quite offer the immediacy of some recent vintages, but this is the sort of wine that blossoms only with a number of years in the cellar. Drink 2029-2049. 93+ William Kelley - robertparker.com (April 2022) From a small, four-hectare vineyard that the Vauthier family acquired in 2014, the 2019 La Clotte offers up inviting aromas of wild blueberries, licorice, coniferous forest floor and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, bright and concentrated, it's tightly wound, with lively acids and chalky tannins. This is a promising effort from an estate in the ascendant. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens a little broody with notions of cedar chest, charcoal, and pencil lead over a core of plum preserves, black raspberries, and Sichuan pepper. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is plush and round with generous black fruit preserves flavors and a racy backbone, finishing long with a red berry lift. 94 James Suckling - jamessuckling.com (Januari 2022) Polished nose of ripe plums, blackberries, walnuts, cigar box, chocolate orange and mahogany. It’s medium-bodied with firm, velvety tannins. Creamy and refined, yet with a firm, precise structure. Some dark-berry and spice complexity as it opens. Palate sinewy and firm, the limestone terroir apparent. Plenty of drive on the finish. Powerful and fresh but a bit austere. Needs time. Drink 2026 – 2036. LA CLOTTE La Clotte is in onze ogen een baby-Ausone. Het is er niet alleen 400 meter van verwijderd, de familie Vauhtier is er ook eigenaar van sinds 2014. De wijngaard is nu nog gemiddeld 55 jaar, maar wordt voor de helft heraangeplant. Encépagement én assemblage zijn nog 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon en 5% Cabernet Franc. Vyncke-Daels houdt enkele kistjes achter de hand voor ware speurneuzen. VauthierAlle krediet voor de heropstanding van het grandioze terroir van Ausone komt toe aan Alain Vauthier. Er zijn geen externe consulenten op Ausone: de assemblages worden gedaan door Pauline Vauthier en Phillippe Baillarguet, de keldermeester sinds 1996. De familie Vauthier bezit 80 hectare in Saint Emilion. Naast Ausone zitten ook de Fonbel, Haut Simard, Simard, Moulin Saint Georges en La Clotte in hun portefeuille. |
