In dit Zalto-glas lijkt zelfs een moderne Bordeaux op een Barolo. Dit is misleidend want het grote oppervlak verlicht de kleurimpressie: Villemaurine is wel degelijk somber gekleurd. De attaque is opulent in "Carmen van Bizet" stijl. Het is een Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé die haar hoge hielen uitslaat en danst over het palet. Het is een zuivere wijn, geritmeerd op hoge intensiteit. De zuiderse impressie is aangenaam, de finale warm, maar het geheel behoudt die frisheid typisch voor 2019. Villemaurine 2019 is een haast musicale verschijning en een leuke wijn in het toegankelijkere genre. Waarom niet? Schaamteloos modern en opulent, maar nog steeds verfijnd. IN DE PERS 94 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Februari 2022) The 2019 Villemaurine, which was the final vintage under Justin Onclin, has a well-defined, focused bouquet of red berry fruit, touches of sous-bois and that marine scent that I noticed from the barrel sample. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. There is a veneer of new oak that needs to be subsumed, but this has a lovely plushness and sensuality toward the finish. Needs time, but it will be worth the wait. Drink 2024-2045. 93-95 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Juni 2020) The 2019 Villemaurine has a well defined, slightly earthy, more introspective bouquet than its peers, a distinctive marine scent emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, a judicious sprinkling of cracked black pepper and quite a structured and persistent finish that bodes well for the future. This is very promising. An exotic mélange of blackberry jam, graphite, spice, menthol, licorice, espresso and chocolate emerges as the 2019 shows off its richness and pure power. This is a decidedly extroverted style. This fruit saw five days of cold soak followed by 30 days on the skins and malolactic fermentation in barrel, all choices that exalt textural depth. The 2019 is simply gorgeous, that's all there is to it. It's medium to full-bodied, rich and polished, with a ripe core of fruit, lively acids and fine, powdery tannins, concluding with a vanillin-inflected finish.
