2019 La Dominique is een bijou. Het lijkt "terug van weggeweest": jaren geleden volgden we deze Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé regelmatig en voor de 2019 kloppen we er terug aan. Dit deden we letterlijk op een woensdag eind juni en begrepen eindelijk waarom het staal ons zo vlotjes overtuigd had: Yann Monties is de nieuwe technische directeur. Dit 37-jarige talent is een transfer van Haut Bailly. Hij weet hoe je ernstig-goede wijn maakt. La Dominique schittert plots weer met hemelse aroma’s in de neus en een tongval als een kus. Met een vermakelijke proefervaring en een prima evenwicht is dit waarlijk succulent! 2019 is het 50ste wijnjaar sinds Clément Fayat het kocht. Fayat is één van Frankrijks grootste aannemers en wegenbouwers. De prijsdaling is hier marginaal, maar aarzel niet: de 2019 is de beste in jaren. Ook de pers is overtuigd: Jeb Dunnuck scoort 95-97, Neal Martin 94 en Antonio Galloni 95. 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc en 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Elevage in 60% nieuwe eik. IN DE PERS 94 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Februari 2022) The 2019 La Dominique presents a composed nose of blackberry and blueberry fruit, touches of cedar and sous-bois and a hint of humidor, complex and quite mercurial. The palate is medium-bodied with plush tannins, savory red fruit mixed with black pepper and sage, good depth, and a spicy, persistent finish. This has a promising future ahead of it. Drink 2025-2045. 93-95 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Juni 2020) The 2019 La Dominique has an impressive bouquet, one of the best that I have encountered in recent years, with clean, pure black cherry and blueberry fruit embroidered with violets. The oak is neatly assimilated. The palate is well defined with detailed black fruit laced with graphite, but the real difference vis-à-vis previous vintages is the weight on the mid-palate. There is no hole in the middle and the wine stretches out languorously on the finish. Is La Dominique beginning to realize its potential? This sample suggests that is the case. Drink 2024-2045. 95 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Februari 2022) The 2019 La Dominique is plump, juicy and super-expressive, all while avoiding the excesses of years past. Succulent dark cherry, plum, leather, licorice, menthol and tobacco are front and center. This is an especially voluptuous, racy style that works so well. Soft, creamy tannins wrap around the gorgeous, persistent finish. Drink 2025-2039. 94-96 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Juni 2020) The 2019 La Dominique just shimmers with beauty. Bright, floral and vibrant, the 2019 is a total stunner. Freshly cut flowers, mint, cedar and red cherry jam open up in the glass, but it is the wine's purity that impresses most today. The oak and overall extraction - often an issue at La Dominique in recent vintages - are really well-judged. This is a fabulous showing. 93 William Kelley - robertparker.com (April 2022) The third vintage produced by the new team that is trying to take this irregular estate adjacent to Cheval Blanc to new heights is the 2019 La Dominique. Offering up aromas of sweet berries, cherries, mocha and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless, with juicy acids, supple tannins and an elegantly gourmand profile. This is a terrific effort that shows that this estate's fine performance in vintages such as 1998, 1990 and 1989 is not a thing of the past. Drink 2021-2039. 90-92 Lisa Perrotti-Brown – robertparker.com (Juni 2020) Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 La Dominique rolls seductively out of the glass with fragrant notions of baked plums, warm blackberries and black cherry preserves plus nuances of spice cake, wild sage, red roses and aniseed. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is coated with decadent black and blue fruits, supported by wonderful freshness and a velvety texture, finishing long and spicy. 95-97 Jeb Dunnuck – jebdunnuck.com (Juni 2020) 94-95 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (Juni 2020) This is a young red with chewy yet polished tannins that lead to a full-bodied palate with ripe fruit, chocolate and minerals. Some cloves, too. Muscular wine for the vintage, yet remains refined and well crafted. 91 Jean-Marc Quarin – quarin.com (Juni 2020) 94-96 Jeff Leve – winecellarinsider.com (Juni 2020) Celebrating 50 years under the ownership of the Fayat family, the first thing you notice is the dark color. Roses, dark chocolate, espresso, herbs, plums and black cherry scents. With more density than you find in previous vintages, you also find a supple, soft, sensuous, finesse oriented wine with silky, chalky tannins and layers of deep, dark, ripe fruits that express their purity in the long finish. 94 Terre de Vins – terredesvins.com (Juni 2020) La DominiqueLa Dominique is de onmiddellijke buur van Cheval Blanc. We situeren ons dus in Saint Emilion, maar op de grens met Pomerol, nabij La Conseillante en l'Evangile. De eigenaar is Clément Fayat, Frankrijks grootste aannemer in wegenwerken. Hij lanceerde destijds ook wel de carrière van Michel Rolland als oenoloog. |
