Chenin Blanc and Palomino on limestone planted between 1958 and 1967 in Dwarskerbos and Elands Bay. De ziltige, dorre kalksteen van St Helena Bay leidt echter wel tot een onwezenlijk precieze calcaire mondervaring. Mineraliteit troef dus in deze spannende kristallijnen wijn. Ragfijne zuren definiëren verder de structuur, lengte en… een fenomenale proefervaring. Raveneau en Dauvissat in één? Probeer eraf te blijven en decanteer vooraf. Eben Sadie The 2020 Skerpioen displays the usual saline and mineral qualities and some chamomile flower aromas. In time and after further development, some wheat straw characteristics also appear and all of that is filled in with gripping tannin and a firm acidity. The 2020 is slightly more concentrated than the previous two vintages and is drinking well now, but will benefit greatly from about 5 years in the bottle. The Skerpioen is arguably our white wine that is the most accessible in any vintage at an early stage. IN DE PERS 95 Anthony Mueller - robertparker.com (Juni 2022) The 2020 Old Vine Series Skerpioen walks the fine line of mineral and citrus, possessing a kiss of sea spray before notions of wax melon, yellow apple skin and sweet Meyer lemon sway on the nose. Medium-bodied on the palate, a slight tinge of fresh herbs makes way for mouthwatering succulent acidity, followed by a kiss of phenolic bitterness and a soft leesy quality over the persistent, almost salty finish. I really enjoy the action on the palate. It's utterly mesmerizing. Bravo! Drink 2022-2045.
