Mev. Kirsten is de oudste en meest venerabele Chenin Blanc van Zuid Afrika. De wijngaard werd aangeplant in 1905 in Stellenbosch aan de voet van de Botmanskop. Het is een monumentale wijn die zonder meer behoort tot de allergrootste witte wijnen ter wereld. Deze primus inter pares is vorstelijk verfijnd tot in zijn eeuwiglijkende finale. De Oude Wereld-neus en krijtige textuur geeft het geheel statige richting en vorstelijke dimensie. Tien jaar wachten is uw pijnlijke plicht en dan nog is flink decanteren een noodzaak. Eben Sadie The 2020 displays spicy and light tropical aromas and some golden delicious apple characteristics with solid tannins and a very firm and gripping acidity. The wine is quite soft spoken at this point and this year the minerality and bright, fine linear texture mark this vintage. It is a wine with immense weight to it and yet it moves so elegantly and swiftly. Suspended gravity is in play here. This wine needs a dark cellar for a long time. IN DE PERS 93+ Anthony Mueller - robertparker.com (Juni 2022) Beginning with an almost electric nose, the 2020 Old Vine Series Mev Kirsten offers a fine, dusty mineral essence and elements of underripe pineapple, yellow pear, sweet citrus and lanolin. The wine is balanced on the palate, with energetic acidity that races across the mid-palate with finesse and precision, followed by a soft chalky mineral tension and a slight kiss of phenolic bitterness. The wine unpacks and unfolds over the elongated finish with subtle flavors of arugula and underripe peach skin. Bravo! Drink 2022-2040. 91 Neal Martin - vinous.com (Augustus 2022) The 2020 Mev. Kirsten has a perfumed bouquet, quite floral, apricot blossom, hints of strawberry and lemon verbena. The palate is well balanced with good weight and density, slightly oily in texture; a touch of lemon rind with a white pepper appear towards the finish. Superb, though the Skurfberg seems to have a little more élan. Drink 2023-2027.
