Riebeek. Cinsaut on slate. Deze 100% Cinsaut siert de westelijke, leistenen flank van de Kasteelberg in Swartland, al meer dan een halve eeuw lang. Volgens Eben Sadie gedijt Cinsaut perfect in Zuid Afrika; we geven hem geen ongelijk! Deze Pofadder brengt Pinot Noir in gedachten: even stevig als zacht met vibrante zuren. Eben Sadie In 2020 we decided to reduce the percentage of whole cluster bunches in the fermentation to 50% on the Pofadder as well. As is the case with the Soldaat, the massive pick-up of potassium and pH climb were just not beneficial to the wine in the long run. When tasting this 2020 Pofadder we decided that it is easily one of the best we have ever bottled and the overall equilibrium is on another level altogether. The wine has immense purity of fruit and brightness, but the layering of the tannins in the texture and the overall balance have reached new heights. This vineyard is now in another dimension altogether. IN DE PERS 92+ Anthony Mueller - robertparker.com (Juni 2022) Beginning with a lighter and lifted nose, the 2020 Old Vine Series Pofadder offers Pinot Noire-like aromas with hints of potpourri and red spice before ripe, dusty cherry skin flows out of the glass with a kiss of green herbs. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers a just-ripe fruit quality with flavors of tart cherries and wild strawberries and fine mineral tension. The wine has a balanced structure yet concludes with a slightly tannic and drying finish. Give it one more year of bottle age, then drink through 2038. Drink 2023-2038.
