Vincent Millet waakt. IN DE PERS 89-91 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Juni 2021) The 2020 Capbern tasted at the château showed slightly better than the sample sent to the UK. Essentially, whilst the aromatics are near identical, the palate is a tad more precise and certainly less austere. There is more cohesion and more pliant tannins towards the finish, encouraging me to raise my banded score. Drink 2026-2045. 88-90 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Mei 2021) The 2020 Capbern has a delineated, earthy nose with predominantly black fruit and light estuarine scents, although it needs a little more intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with a tannic, slightly austere opening, saline and lightly spiced with a pleasant bitter edge towards the finish. Maybe a little short? It should fill out during its élevage so let’s see if it just gains persistence then. Drink 2025 - 2033. 88-90 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Mei 2021) The 2020 Capbern is a rich, potent wine. Dried rose petal, spice, leather, mocha and dried herbs lend quite a bit of aromatic nuance. Big tannins and insistent saline underpinnings add character, and yet the 2020 remains rather burly in its first impression and compact on the finish. This sample is perhaps a bit more convincing than the sample I tasted a month ago. Drink 2025-2040. 91 Jane Anson – decanter.com (Mei 2021) 91 William Kelley – robertparker.com (April 2023) The 2020 Capbern offers up aromas of sweet cassis, plums, pencil shavings, loamy soil and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and seamless palate that's polished, penetrating and dynamic. It's a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Petit Verdot and the balance Merlot, produced by Vincent Millet and his team from Calon Ségur. Drink 2025-2045. 89-91+ Lisa Perrotti-Brown – robertparker.com (Mei 2021) The 2020 Capbern is composed of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, weighing in with 14.1% alcohol. It is due to be aged for around 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% new. Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 Capbern sings of black cherries, mulberries and redcurrant jelly, with hints of candied violets, wild sage and fertile loam. The medium-bodied palate has impressive verve and freshness, featuring soft, well-managed tannins, red and black berry layers and a mineral-tinged finish. Drink 2023-2035. 92-93 James Suckling – jamessuckling (April 2021) 94-96 Jeb Dunnuck – jebdunnuck.com (Mei 2021) 17/20 James Lawther MW – jancisrobinson.com (Mei 2021) 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Cask sample. Dense but vibrant and aromatic. Plenty of crunchy fruit and freshness. Bigger structure than 2019, closer to 2018, the tannins firm and textured. Dry, persistent finish. One for the cellar. Should be GV. 14.1%.
