Les Rugiens zijn tweeledig: Hauts et Bas. Deze laatste Rugiens-Bas is Grand Cru waardig. Domaine de Montille is er de voornaamste eigenaar met 1,02 ha op een totaal van 5,83 ha. Klei met ijzeroxyden kleurt er de bodem rood. “Ceci lui confère une puissance et une distinction incomparable en Côte de Beaune”. Complexiteit en diepgang in de proefervaring alsook bewaarpotentieel maken deze krachtige fijne wijn compleet. Net zoals bij DRC, Dujac of Leroy wordt vinification en vendange entière toegepast. The beautifully proportioned palate delivers a fine bead of acidity, plenty of mineralité, and a precise, quite persistent finish that lingers in the mouth. Very fine and more-ish. Drink 2023-2032. 91-93 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Januari 2019) The 2017 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru contains two-thirds whole clusters and matures in one-third new oak. It has an intense bouquet, the fruit slightly darker than the Les Pezerolles, touches of réglisse and star anis emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, smooth in texture with good depth, though I discern more terroir expression on the Les Pezerolles at this moment. Drink 2021-2038. 91-93+ William Kelley – robertparker.com (Januari 2019) The 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens Cuvée Hubert will demand some patience, as it is one of the most potentially long-lived wines in the de Montille cellar. Revealing aromas of ripe cherries, cassis and licorice that mingle with hints of black truffle, dark chocolate and rich soil, it's medium to full-bodied, ample but tight-knit, with tangy acids and fine but firm, chalky tannins. Powerful and broad shouldered, it's a classic Rugiens in the making. The 2017 vintage is a success for Domaine de Montille, where winemaker Brian Sieve has produced a portfolio of fine-boned, tensile wines that display expressive fruit and impressive precision. As usual, the range was quite tight-knit and reserved when I tasted the wines in December, but I suspect that they will flesh out and open up considerably by the time they're bottled. As usual, comparatively long macerations with frequently significant percentages of whole cluster are the order of the day. The big news at this address is that, following European Union legislation that prohibits one label from bearing the names of two appellations, the holdings of the Château de Puligny-Montrachet are being incorporated into the Domaine de Montille: they are accordingly reviewed here. In future vintages, Sieve will be responsible for making these wines, so readers can likely expect these cuvées to become a little less exuberant and a little more serious in coming years. Domaine de MontilleSinds 1730 kenden 9 generaties de Montille een bewogen geschiedenis. De twee jongste generaties breidden het Domaine weer uit tot 37 hectare (20 rood en 17 wit). De eigenzinnige bewaarwijnen van vader Hubert de Montille werden altijd al gesmaakt. Tegelijk bottelde deze advocaat, overleden in 2014, au Domaine zoals DRC, Roumier of Rousseau en hielp hij de grenzen van Grand Cru en Premier Cru uittekenen. Zoon Etienne innoveerde als eerste met biodynamie. Geïnspireerd door Alix en Jean-Marc Roulot, zijn zus en schoonbroer, bezorgde hij zijn witte wijnen fijnere zuren, lengte en precisie. De rode wijnen werden vlijtiger met meer vinificatie en grappe entière en minder koude pre-fermentatie en pigeage. Na vinificatie op vat verlengden ook de élevages. Vastberaden in zijn zoektocht naar karakter, stijl en structuur, sublimeert wijnmaker Brian Sieve de terroirs de Bourgogne. |
