Goed nieuws voor scharen liefhebbers van deze legendarische naam. 2022 Chasse Spleen is de elegantie zelve. Alles loopt vlot van neus tot attaque, waarna zachte tannine de ervaring intensifieert met een aardige crescendo. Wacht eens: is dit heerlijk of is dit heerlijk ? De bloedmooie Chasse Spleen overklast Poujeaux en is duidelijk hun meest indrukwekkende wijn in jaren. Elk jaar wijzigt het etiket van Chasse Spleen lichtjes. Een schrijver komt ook telkens aan het woord. Met de 2022 is dat de befaamde of beruchte romancier Michel Houellebecq. Hij schreef voor de gelegenheid: “Il existe, au milieu du temps, La possiblité d’une île”. Il ne croyait pas si bien dire: ik herinner mij niet zo dithyrambisch te zijn geweest over Chasse Spleen sinds 2009 en 2010… Een dithyrambe (Gr. διθύραμβος) of dithyrambos was in het Oude Griekenland een extatische lofzang op Dionysos, de god van de wijn en de vruchtbaarheid… 54% Cabernet Sauvignon - 39% Merlot - 5% Petit Verdot - 2% Cabernet Franc. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with levels of texture and mid-palate amplitude unusual at this address in recent years, this supple, charming Moulis should offer a broad drinking window. 92-94 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Mei 2023) The 2022 Chasse-Spleen was picked from 9 September to 2 October. It is delineated on the nose, with black fruit entwined with loam and tobacco. It’s a bit backward at the moment but is nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a fresh and saline entry. Lively and energetic, there is impressive weight and structure on the finish. As it coheres, this could turn into a seriously fine Moulis. One for the cellar. Blackberry jam, chocolate, licorice, dark spice and leather are all dialed up in this opulent, decadently rich Moulis. Great stuff, flashes of heat, but a ton of personality, and serious architecture that promises to age well. 40% new oak barrels for ageing. Now contains part of the vines from newly-purchased Château Brillette, with good quality Cabernet Sauvignon from gravel terroir, in place as of this 2022 blend vintage. 89-91 Jeff Leve – thewinecellarinsider.com (Mei 2023) Tobacco leaf, underbrush, cedar, and currants form the core of the wine. On the medium-bodied palate, the wine is crunchy, crisp, and classic with a savory edge to firm finish. Samen met Poujeaux biedt het de beste wijnen in Moulis en Médoc, in het Noordwesten van Margaux. De wijngaard strekt zich uit over méér dan 100 hectare. Al 40 jaar is Chasse-Spleen een verhaal van vrouwen: Madame Castaing, de eerste eigenares erfde enkele van de beste percelen op de heuvel van Grand Poujeaux. Maar helaas, te laat om deel te nemen aan de classificatie van 1855. Later was er (vanaf 1976) Bernadette Villars, dochter van wijnhandelaar Jacques Merlaut. Ze werd opgevolgd vanaf 1992 door haar oudste dochter, Claire, en vandaag Céline, de jongste. Het familiedomein houdt de wijnen aan de top van de appellation Moulis en haalt het beste uit de sector Grand Poujeaux, een zeer goed terroir van graves garonnaises op een kalkstenen ondergrond waar Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%) en Petit Verdot floreren. Chasse Spleen was bijzonder succesvol in de fenomenale wijnjaren 2009 en 2010 en verkiest een meer toegankelijke en vroeger drinkklare stijl. De wijnen zouden eigenlijk van het niveau van de Crus Classés moeten zijn, zeker in grote millésimes. Chasse Spleen heeft twee evenwaardige tweede wijnen: Oratoire de Chasse Spleen in Moulis en l'Héritage de Chasse Spleen als Haut Médoc. De naam Chasse Spleen staat voor het verjagen van de melancholie en is geïnspireerd door Lord Byron of Charles Baudelaire. |
