Deze rijkelijke, opulente en stevige La Pointe behoort tot de grootste successen van dit Château. In vergelijking met Beauregard en Nenin lijkt dit een onweerstaanbaar aanbod en een pluim op de hoed van de verdienstelijke Eric Monneret en consulent Hubert de Boüard. 84% Merlot en 16% Cabernet Franc. Bravo!

The 2015 La Pointe is missing a little definition on the nose at first, but a few swirls of the glass and it reveals lovely black fruit laced with crushed stone, truffle and melted tar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannin, a mixture of red and black fruit laced with sea salt and a touch of spice, leading to a refined and elegant finish that the château simply was not producing a decade earlier. Excellent. Anticipated maturity: 2021 - 2045.

The 2015 La Pointe is a blend of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, picked between 27 September for the younger vines for the second wines, and 1 October for the heart of the Merlot, the Cabernet picked 8 and 12 October. Eric Monnoret told me that the 2015 was matured in 50% new oak. It has a comparatively flamboyant bouquet compared to recent vintages of La Pointe, with opulent red berry fruit, kirsch, cassis and patina of tar. The palate is medium-bodied, firm in the mouth at the moment, quite structured, the oak nicely integrated with a slightly savory finish. This is a robust La Pointe, quite spicy in the mouth with a long aftertaste. It will gain more harmony during its élevage. Drink: 2020-2040.

This is really tannic and structured with loads of ripe tannins and fruit. Full body. Massive for this estate yet agile. Best ever. 84% merlot and 16% cabernet franc.

The 2015 La Pointe is an attractive, juicy Pomerol to drink now and over the next handful of years. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, licorice, menthol and tobacco build as this fleshy, succulent Pomerol shows off its racy personality. The 2015 has turned out beautifully. There is certainly plenty to like. Drink 2018-2025.

The 2015 La Pointe is dark and succulent to the core, if not super-complex. Black cherry, mocha, licorice, new leather and spice are pushed forward in a tasty, fruit-driven Pomerol that will drink well with minimal cellaring.

With the help of a new team and the consultancy of Hubert de Boüard, this large Pomerol estate is improving with every vintage. This is aromatic and quite forward, with bramble and red fruit flavours, stylish oak and notes of vanilla and fruitcake. Drink: 2020-2028.

La Pointe

Pomerol is maar zo’n 800 groot en bestaat uit een aanéénschakeling van vele Châteaux die eigenlijk de naam niet waardig zijn: heel dikwijls gaat het om laagbouw, verborgen middenin wijngaarden die gemiddeld maar zo'n 5 hectare groot zijn. La Pointe is een ander verhaal: in de XIXde Eeuw had de familie Chaperon  mooie gebouwen neergepoot te midden een wijngaard van 21 hectare, één van de grotere in Pomerol met de Sales, Nénin en Gazin. De familie d’Arfeuille behield het vanaf 1941 tot het Franse systeem van successierechten een verkoop of een splitsing van de wijngaard opdrong. Tijdens en na de aanslepende onderhandelingen eindigden mindere wijnen op de rekken van supermarkten, maar uiteindelijk, in 2007, telde Generali, een Italiaanse verzekeringsmaatschappij, zo'n €32 à €35 miljoen neer... Vandaag herleeft La Pointe met Eric Monneret als manager en Hubert de Boüard de Laforest van Angélus als consulent.

De wijngaard is gelegen op de Zuidwestelijke grens van Pomerol, nabij Libourne. De ondergrond variëert van zand, soms voorzien van graves en klei, met sporen van de fameuze "crasse de fer" eronder. 85% Merlot en 15% Cabernet Franc. De zachte en aangename huisstijl van La Pointe is vertrouwd in België. Het laatste grote millésime voor 2009, was de 1970!

de Boüard de Laforest

Hubert de Boüard de Laforest maakt de wijn op Angélus sinds 1984 en is de zevende generatie van de familie die deze taak vervult. Zijn inspanningen werden in 2012 bekroond toen Angélus samen met Pavie Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" vergeven werd naast de historische Cheval Blanc en Ausone. Ondertussen bouwde dit haantje de voorste een carrière uit als consulent voor meerdere wijndomeinen, tot in Thaïland toe. Chapeau! Zijn dochter Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal staat vandaag aan het roer van Angélus als ware Bond girl. Sinds Casino Royale en tot No time to Die staat ook daar Angélus in de kijker...
