2018 Skerpioen - Sadie Family Wines | € 41,14 (€ 49,78) |

VOLGENS EBEN SADIE From the outset the limestone soils of this vineyard was the main attraction and the crazy thing is that, with the 2018 drought, this vineyard held up better than any of the other vineyards – even with the lowest seasonal rainfall of all of them (210mm total). However, the workings of the limestone soils and the underwater table brought us some of the most beautiful white grapes we picked in 2018. The usual salty mineral and limey, very linear wine was true to form with some citrus and honey blossom undertones. Being delicious, it is often consumed too young – try and keep one or two bottles for future drinking. IN DE PERS 97 Tim Atkin MW – 7th South Africa Special Report 91 Neal Martin – vinous.com (November 2019) The 2018 Skerpioen, a field blend of Chenin Blanc and Palomino, has a detailed bouquet of pressed white flowers, honeysuckle and dried apricot aromas that blossom with aeration. The palate is taut and fresh, and the saline finish remains tight and linear, perhaps just tapering a little earlier than I might have liked. Otherwise, this is very fine. Drink 2020-2038. 92+ Anthony Mueller – The Wine Advocate Issue # 245 - robertparker.com (Oktober 2019) Fresh and zippy, the 2018 Old Vine Series Skerpioen opens with citrus and in a shy way. The palate moves more citrus-driven with a soft salinity that is very pleasing on the mid-palate, showing a focused and clean expression with a mineral backbone that I find in the range of Sadie Family wines. The finish is pure and structured and begs for fresh seafood and shellfish. Medium-bodied with lively acidity, this is serious wine made from a blend of Chenin Blanc and Palomino that is simply delicious! Stellar! Drink 2019-2032. Tim James – winemag.co.za (Juli 2019) The lowest alcohol vineyard this year. Lightly fruity aromas. Good bite of acid, touch of phenolics, again the austerity obvious. Mineral, salty. Good fruit density, enough, and growing in the glass, which is a good sign.
