VOLGENS EBEN SADIE The ‘T Voetpad vineyard also followed the same trajectory as the Kokerboom as far as the production numbers are concerned, but here it was not on account of the soils being too drained, for the Voetpad vineyard is situated at the bottom of a mountain with some sub-soil moisture from a nearby river and underground draining. It was simply a case of very little fruit that set during flowering: a reality of a period of ongoing drought; and some vines actually died. In 2019 we will do a replanting in the vineyard and replace the vines that could not make it through. The 2018 wine stayed true to its normal character and we managed to produce one of our star wines from this parcel again. Production numbers are very, very limited. IN DE PERS 99 Tim Atkin MW – 7th South Africa Special Report - Overall White Wine of the Year 93 Neal Martin – vinous.com (November 2019) The 2018 T’Voetpad has a perfumed bouquet of nectarine, jasmine and wet wool, nicely defined but requiring a little encouragement from the glass. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, offering orange peel and marmalade notes, a tang of lemongrass and a bright, effervescent finish that lingers in the mouth. Delightful. Drink 2020-2040. 94 Anthony Muelller – The Wine Advocate Issue # 245 – roberparker.com (Oktober 2019) A blend of Semillon, Palomino, Chenin & Muscat, the 2018 Old Vine Series T Voetpad Has a citrus-driven knows with the subtle floral hints from Muscat. Initially, the focus of the wine was mineral-driven. As the wine opened up, it gained in complexity, expressing each varietal individually over time. Mandarin orange, Meyer lemon zest, red delicious apple and stargazer lily, all promenade, with impeccable texture and minerality that is beautifully woven into the fabric of the wine. Medium-bodied, with the long complex finish, the T Voetpad has lively acidity and balanced focus that will last for years to come! Drink 2019-2040. Tim James – winemag.co.za (Juli 2019) Field blend – chenin, palomino, semillon. Dried fruit, quiet nose. Vineyard suffered badly from poor fruitset, so minuscule production. Some intensity and a good acidity from early picking. A bit awkward in youth. Savoury, less obvious fruit – some quince, apricot. Opens in glass, but opulence, power a touch less this year.
