14,5%vol. Montlandrie 2019 is "vinifié comme on sait faire" door l'Eglise Clinet. Heerlijke Montlandrie!

IN DE PERS

92 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Februari 2023)
The 2019 Montlandrie has quite an intense nose with blackberry, briary and desiccated orange peel scents, nicely delineated and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, cedar-infused black fruit, fresh and nicely structured with a quasi-Médoc finish that conveys a sense of energy. Very fine. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Drink 2025-2042.

The 2019 Montlandrie was one of the hidden gems of Durantou’s lineup this vintage. Now in bottle, it retains a wonderful, expressive, vivacious bouquet of black and red fruit and hints of violet and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied, with pliant, very fine tannins and a perfect line of acidity. Intense yet finessed, leading to a silky-smooth finish. Make sure you have some of this excellent Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux in your cellar, or it will never forgive you. Drink 2024-2044.

The 2019 Montlandrie, Denis Durantou's Côtes de Castillon vineyard, was picked from 30 September with the Cabernets picked 7-10 October before maturation in 40% new oak. It has a well-defined, very focused and compelling bouquet with intense cranberry and raspberry scents laced with cedar and sous-bois. The palate is exquisite: built around a core of finely chiseled tannins, a mélange of black and red fruit with hints of liquorice and subtle briny notes on the persistent finish. This is outstanding. Drink 2024 - 2044.

91-93 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Juni 2020)
The 2019 Montlandrie is another potent, brooding wine in Denis Durantou's range. Here, too, the tannins are incisive, but there is enough fruit to balance things out. Dark fruit, spice, chocolate, leather and licorice add a real sense of gravitas. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes through in the wine's aromatic and structural profile. Montlandrie is a rare 2019 that is going to need time in bottle to be at its best. Interestingly, harvest was later here than in Lalande de Pomerol. Merlot came in between September 30 and October 4, while the Cabernets were harvested between October 7 through 10.
Denis Durantou's 2019s are absolutely brilliant across the board. My tasting was obviously bittersweet, as Durantou lost his battle with illness just a few weeks prior. Denis Durantou was one of the most intriguing characters in Bordeaux. I can't say I knew him well, but I always enjoyed tasting with him, as he was a person that spoke more with his eyes than with words. Things were implied rather than overtly stated. So, I tasted the 2019s with daughters Constance and Noémie over Zoom, in typical 2020 fashion. The Durantou sisters describe 2019 as a year with an early flowering and homogenous ripening that led to small, concentrated berries and higher pHs than normal. Temperatures were kept cool in the cellar, where both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations took place over cuvaison of 21 days (for all wines), in a reductive environment with little oxygen. From top to bottom, the Durantou 2019s are positively stellar. Don't miss them!

93 Lisa Perrotti-Brown – thewineindependent.com (Mei 2022)
A blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 40% new oak, the 2019 Montlandrie is medium to deep garnet-purple colored. It comes barreling out of the glass with exuberant notes of plum preserves, black cherry compote, and black raspberries, plus suggestions of violets, wild sage, and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, the palate shimmies with energy, featuring ripe, rounded tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long and lifted.

93-95 Lisa Perrotti-Brown – robertparker.com (Juni 2020)
The 2019 Montlandrie is a blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It comes bounding out of the glass with bright, cheerful scents of warm redcurrants, Morello cherries, wild blueberries and boysenberries with touches of lavender, red roses, cinnamon stick and cast-iron pan. Wow. I LOVE this energy on the elegantly styled, medium-bodied palate. The red and black fruit layers practically dance, intermingled with grainy (Cabernet-like) tannins and tons of freshness. It has a satisfyingly long, fragrant finish. Truly impressive!

92 Yohan Castaing - robertparker.com (April 2023)
Evoking smoky, graphite and spicy aromas, the 2019 Montlandrie has an exquisite earthy character followed by a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, a juicy texture and a slightly austere, delicate finish. This beautiful wine (a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a real potential to improve in the cellar. Drink 2023-2029.

94 Jane Anson – janeanson.com (Juni 2020)
This is an excellent vintage of Montlandrie, with smoked coffee and cocoa bean, a ton of salinity, powerful blue and red fruits, super juicy on the finish. Enticing curled woodsmoke as it comes out of the glass, slate finish with a scrape of minerality. 40% new oak. Harvest September 30 to October 10.

93 Jane Anson – decanter.com (Juni 2020)
Cinnamon and spice box with pulped raspberry fruits on the nose, this has the restrained exuberance of Montlandrie in spades, where the ripe fruits are balanced step by step with fresh acidities and lip-smacking salinity that speaks to the limestone soils of this estate. Cabernet Sauvignon adds a savoury touch, and overall this is yet another example of why the loss of Durantou will be felt for years. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2036.

16,5/20 James Lawther MW – jancisrobinson.com (Juni 2020)
75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon; 40% new oak. Barrel sample. Bright and lifted on the nose. Dark-fruit aromatics with a lingering chalky note. Fresh and layered on the palate, the limestone terroir again apparent. Firm, fresh and dry with plentiful tannins and a stony, pebble-sucking finish. Muscular but refined at the same time. 14.5%. Drink 2025 – 2034.

93 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (Februari 2022)
Blueberries and dark cherries with walnuts and hazelnuts. Some nutmeg, too. Medium-bodied with firm, polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Very fine tannins. Drink after 2025, but already gorgeous.

92-93 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (Juni 2020)
A chewy, structured red with medium body. The flavor shows blue fruit with salty, minerally undertones. It’s tannic, yet driven. Tight.

94 Jeb Dunnuck - jebdunnuck.com (April 2022)
A perennial no-brainer, the 2019 Château Montlandrie sports a vivid purple hue as well as a gorgeous bouquet of juicy black cherries, blueberries, tobacco, and cedarwood, with some classic chalky minerality in the background. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has terrific purity of fruit, silky tannins, and a great finish. I’d be thrilled to have bottles in the cellar, and it should have 10-15 years of longevity.

92 Jean-Marc Quarin – quarin.com (Juni 2020)

91-93 Jeff Leve – winecellarinsider.com (Juni 2020)
One cannot help but notice the ripe, juicy plums on the nose. The chocolate, truffle and licorice notes that come next are the perfect nuance. Round, opulent and juicy, this wine is fresh, long and mouth-filling, ending with layers of fresh fruits.

Montlandrie

Jane Anson - Top 10 affordable Bordeaux - decanter.com (28 december 2017) - I couldn't finish without adding one Denis Durantou wine... if you do see them, snap them up. Durantou is without doubt one of France's most talented winemakers, and Montlandrie has been owned by him since 2009... and this is one of the leading lights ... An accomplished, succulent wine.

Durantou
