The 2019 Meyney has a divine bouquet, so pure and winsome with floral red berry scents, beautifully integrated new oak and superb precision. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy to the point where you can almost overlook the backbone of this Saint-Estèphe. It could have been blowsy, yet it retains superb balance and feels luxuriant and long on the finish. This is a stellar showing easily eclipsing its performances either in barrel or just after bottling. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Drink 2026-2055.

92+ Neal Martin – vinous.com (Februari 2022)
The 2019 Meyney has a well-defined, fragrant, floral bouquet of ample red currant and cranberry fruit, touches of pencil shaving and smoke emerging with aeration, followed later by the tertiary aspect that one associates with the appellation. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, black pepper and graphite, tightening toward the finish but still showing fine length. This is a very fine Meyney that may warrant a higher score down the line. Drink 2024-2048.

91-93 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Juni 2020)
The 2019 Meyney is well defined on the bouquet, leaning a little more towards the red side of the fruit spectrum with raspberry, wild strawberry and floral scents. The oak is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. It has a citric element from start to finish, a taut line of acidity with light spicy notes towards the finish that shares the brininess of stablemate Grand Puy Ducasse. Very fine. Tasted twice with consistent notes. Drink 2024 - 2048.

92 Antonio Galloni - vinous.com (Februari 2022)
The 2019 Meyney is a deep, powerful wine. It shows all the richness and intensity that are such signatures, but with that added kick of vibrancy that has become the norm in recent years. Tobacco, cedar, wild flowers, mint and incense add layers of nuance to a core of red/purplish fruit. The 2019 is beautifully done. Drink 2025-2039.

91 William Kelley - robertparker.com (April 2022)
Aromas of sweet cherries and berries mingled with tobacco, loamy soil and petals introduce the 2019 Meyney, a medium to full-bodied, seamless and lively wine with fine depth at the core, powdery tannins and an attractive sense of completeness. This is an understated but charming Saint-Estèphe that has turned out nicely in bottle. Drink 2025-2045.

90-92+ Lisa Perrotti-Brown – robertparker.com (Juni 2020)
Deep purple-black in color, the 2019 Meyney strides confidently out of the glass with classic notes of cassis, warm plums and baked blackberries plus hints of cedar chest, bay leaves, pencil lead and clove oil plus a waft of underbrush. The medium to full-bodied palate has a generous core of ripe black fruits with a slight touch of oak poking through and a firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins, finishing with impressive length.

93 Jane Anson – decanter.com (Juni 2020)
One of the wines I use as a marker of how good the vintage is in St Estèphe, because it isn't classified but is in a brilliant location right next door to Montrose. And this is good, extremely concentrated, pure cassis and bilberry flavours, tons of tannins, clear austerity and fairly high acidity as I am getting in a lot of these 2019s. Not the same luscious character as 2018, but in many ways that makes it more typical of the appellation, and the alcohol seems less over the top than in 2018. Lots to enjoy here, not quite up to 2016 standard but not far. Tasted two weeks apart, and if anything its expression had deepened second time around. Hubert de Boüard consultant. Drink 2025-2038.

94 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (Juni 2020)
Notes of ripe blackcurrants and blackberries, vanilla, licorice and dark chocolate with touches of earthiness and nutmeg-like spice. Medium-bodied with ripe, velvety tannins and delicious fruit. Polished and refined. Try after 2023.

92-93 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (Juni 2020)
Aromas and flavors of blackberries and blueberries with walnut and coffee-bean notes. Medium to full body, integrated tannins and a flavorful finish. Excellent, but not the 2018.

17,5/20 Jancis Robinson - jancisrobinson.com (Februari 2023)
Tasted blind. Lifted, perfumed. Subtle, with a savoury streak running through it. Far from massive but nicely judged and appetising. Cool and sophisticated. GV 13.5%. Drink 2027-2045.

Meyney

Sinds 2004 is Crédit Agricole eigenaar. Onder toezicht van de directrice Anne Le Naour en consulent Hubert de Boüard de Laforest van Angélus kent Château Meyney een ware heropstanding.
