75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc en zelfs 5% Cabernet Sauvignon die Denis Durantou zo trots maakte. De Merlot werd geplukt tussen 18 en 22 september en de Cabernets tussen 23 en 25 september. 14,5% vol. De wijn rust voorlopig op 40% nieuwe eik in de chai die twee jaar terug in gebruik werd genomen. Heerlijke kersjes, knapperige tannine en… opnieuw een schitterende Montlandrie die de hopeloos uitverkochte 2019 op waardige wijze opvolgt. We hebben hem nodig: zo intens, rijkelijk en volmaakt… Geniet! IN DE PERS 89 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Februari 2023) The 2020 Montlandrie is one of the more showy wines from the Durantou's this vintage. It is quite plush and sensual with scents of crème de cassis, crushed violet and a hint of star anis. Nicely defined, though their Lalande-de-Pomerols demonstrate a little more class. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fleshy and generous, a little sweeter than the Les Cruzelles with a pure, quite intense finish. Fine - it just needs a couple of years in bottle. 88-90 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Mei 2021) The 2020 Montlandrie was picked September 18–25 and matured in 40% new oak. It has an exuberant, ripe bouquet, a mixture of red and blueberry fruit, crushed violets and potpourri aromas surfacing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, sweet and sensual, although I find less complexity on the finish compared directly with its siblings, La Chenade and Les Cruzelles. Still, this will give several years of drinking pleasure. Drink: 2025-2035. 94 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Februari 2023) The 2020 Montlandrie, the Durantou family's Côtes de Castillon, is fabulous. It is another very serious wine in this range. A core of dark Merlot fruit gradually opens, releasing complicating notes of spice, leather, incencse and licorive. There's real depth and gravitas. A few years in the cellar seem prudent, as there is a lot of wine here. The purity of the flavors is just striking. Drink 2025-2035. 91-93 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Mei 2021) The 2020 Montlandrie is powerful, densely constituted and full of character. Inky red/purplish fruit, cedar, spice, mocha and dried flowers are all laced together. Far from an easygoing wine, it packs a serious punch, and I expect it will age wonderfully. In 2020, the Montlandrie may very well be the hidden gem in the Durantou range. (This is the second year in the new winery.) Drink: 2025-2035 93 Jane Anson – decanter.com (Februari 2023) Intense and concentrated, blueberry and blackberry fruits lifted by strands of saffron and oyster shell, austere on the finish, good stuff. 40% new oak, harvest September 18 to 25, 45hl/ha yield, 3.6ph. Noemie Durantou winemaker alongside Olivier Gautrat. 93 Jane Anson – decanter.com (Mei 2021) Denis Durantou estate up on the limestone plateau of Castillon, now vinified by his daughter Noémie Durantou. Deeply coloured, ruby in colour with fleshy fruit, not giving a whole lot away right now, but this is a fairly discreet vintage in many ways. The dominant impression is of a rough linen and wet stone texture that reflects its limestone soils. Width and depth as it opens in the palate, serious for now but with plenty to give. A yield of 45hl/ha. 3.6pH. Drinking Window 2023 – 2035. 92+ Yohan Castaign - robertparker.com (April 2023) The 2020 Montlandrie is a promising wine for aficionados who can keep it for a few years in the cellar. It has aromas of blackberries, iris, spring flowers, blackcurrant and blueberry, followed by a medium-bodied, concentrated and layered texture on the palate with a denser character than previous vintages. It’s harmonious with a clean and precise finish. 92-94 Lisa Perrotti-Brown – robertparker.com (Mei 2021) The 2020 Montlandrie is a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Merlot was picked between the 18th and the 22nd of September, and the Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon were picked from the 23rd to the 25th of September. It has an alcohol of 14.5% and is aging in French oak barrels, 40% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it bursts from the glass with vibrant notes of crushed blackberries, fresh, juicy black plums and mulberries, plus hints of bay leaves, cardamom, ground black pepper and black truffles. The medium to full-bodied palate possesses impressive freshness with a solid backbone of soft, rounded tannins and bags of ripe black fruits, finishing long with a peppery kick. 53,000 bottles are expected to be made. Drink 2025 – 2039. 92-93 James Suckling – jamessuckling (April 2021) Very salty and tangy with some white pepper, too, as well as lots of blackberries and blueberries. Medium body with delicate yet firm tannins that show intensity. Firm finish. 16,5/20 James Lawther MW – jancisrobinson.com (Mei 2021) 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cask sample. Ripe and full with notes of dark fruits, damsons and spice. Gourmand and generous on the palate but with a freshness that runs all the way through. Tannins chalky and firm but fine-edged providing plenty of length on the finish. Energy and balance as well. Clearly a success this year. Should be GV. 14.5%. De combinatie van terroir, precieze vinificatie en een onberispelijk élevage resulteert in een overheerlijke prachtwijn. Deze 11 hectare in Castillon is beplant met 25 jaar oude Merlot en Cabernet Franc (2/3 + 1/3). Sinds 2016 wordt hieraan 5% Cabernet Sauvignon toegevoegd (aangeplant bij de aankoop). Durantou is without doubt one of France's most talented winemakers, and Montlandrie has been owned by him since 2009... and this is one of the leading lights ... An accomplished, succulent wine. DurantouDenis Durantou was een geniale wijnmaker en één van de allergrootste in Bordeaux. De kleine productie van zijn Pomerol "extraordinaire" Eglise Clinet is wereldwijd gegeerd.Zijn talent bewees hij bovendien in de betaalbare wijnen die hij daarnaast maakte: van de achterdeur van l’Eglise Clinet zag Denis zijn wijngaarden van Les Cruzelles en La Chenade (Lalande de Pomerol). Verderop vinden we Saintayme (Saint Emilion) en Montlandrie (Castillon). Ze zijn allemaal heerlijk, geloofwaardig en overtuigend. Saintayme is een perceel van 35 jaar oude Merlots op klei en graves in Saint Etienne de Lisse binnen de appellatie Saint Emilion. In Lalande de Pomerol worden Les Cruzelles en La Chenade gemaakt naargelang de bodemsamenstelling en de ouderdom van de wijnstokken. De jonge wijnstokken van La Chenade (gelegen op graves) verleiden terwijl we de oudere wijnstokken van Les Cruzelles op klei en graves bodems kunnen vergelijken we goede Pomerols. Sinds de aankoop in 2000 zette Denis de wijngaard maniacaal naar zijn hand. Montlandrie in Castillon is de recentste aankoop: de 11 hectare klei en kalkgronden zijn beplant met 25 jaar oude wijnstokken (70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc of 70%, 25% en 5% Cabernet Sauvignon vanaf 2016). Buiten de erkende appellaties om, behoren deze wijnen tot de beste van Bordeaux. De tweede wijn van Eglise Clinet, La Petite Eglise, is zeldzaam met een jaarlijks productie beperkt tot zo'n 7.000 flesjes. Het levenswerk van Denis Durantou wordt verdergezet door zijn drie dochters. « Je veux continuer à faire honneur au travail de mon père », zegt Noémie die al 4 jaar vinifieert samen met Olivier Gautrat, al 20 jaar maître de chai. « À Pomerol, Je suis chez moi. J’y ai grandi, j’allais à l’école du village, je jouais dans le chai et j’ai le souvenir des odeurs… ». Constance zorgt voor 400 olijfbomen en truffeleiken. Alix volgt vanuit Parijs en is gepassioneerd door kunst en Japanse cultuur. Hun mama, kunstenares Marie Reilhac neemt deel aan de assemblages. Zeventig jaar oude Cabernet Franc wijnstokken gedijen op het perfect gedraineerd terroir van argilo-graveleux. Eglise Clinet is één van de grootste wijnen die er zijn. Hun Les Cruzelles in Lalande-de-Pomerol en Montlandrie in Castillon zijn superwijnen en blijven héél toegankelijk. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
