Een jonge Sénéjac charmeert met distinctie en bewaart met vertrouwen, maar 2022 overtreft wat we tot nu van hen proefden. Zeg niet aan Talbot dat dit te goedkoop is. Deze te (her)ontdekken Haut Médoc verlengt de succesreeks 2016-2018-2020. Het beantwoordt de wijnkenner die een “meer dan gemiddelde” huiswijn zoekt. Geslaagd? Méér dan dat! Geplukt 12 tot 29 september op slechts 32hl/ha. Assemblage: 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc en 6% Petit Verdot. 13,5%vol. 15 maand élevage op 30% nieuwe eik. Offering up aromas of cherries, dark berries, peonies and pencil shavings, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and succulent, with a rich core of fruit, supple tannins and a persistent finish. 92-94 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Mei 2023) The 2022 Sénéjac, which has had the guidance of Jean-Michel Laporte (Château Talbot) in recent years, was picked September 12-29 and aged in 30% new oak. It has a perfumed bouquet with red berry fruit, cedar and blood orange scents. More graphite notes emerge with time and impart a Pauillac-like flair. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins and a sliver bead of acidity. The oak feels polished, but not overbearing, thereby allowing the finish to really shine. This is a wonderful Haut-Médoc, one of the best wines that I have tasted from the estate. 93-94 James Suckling – jamessuckling.com (April 2023) Very attractive, crunchy dark fruit with medium to full body and spiced, chocolatey character. Firm and structured with velvety tannins and a lingering finish. Plenty of currant and hazelnut character. 93 Jane Anson – janeanson.com (Mei 2023) Impressive, it has lift and character, floral notes of red roses, raspberry leaf and peony, flirts with high alcohols and touches of cloves and tar from the oak, but there is supple fruit underneath, and the tannins have give and lift, not just shutting things down. Vintage signature without overkill. One to look out for, tasted twice. 30% new oak for ageing. 91-93 Jeff Leve – thewinecellarinsider.com (Mei 2023) With notes of flowers, blackberries, black currants, and black raspberries on the nose, you get a concentrated, round, dark-fruited, rich wine with more of those sweet, juicy black fruits in the finish along with a hint of chocolate and spicy espresso that comes in at the end of the finish. The wine blends 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2025-2035. 90-92 Alexandre Ma – alexandrema.com (Mei 2023) 94 Vladimir Kauffmann – Revue Vinicole Internationale – larvi.com (Mei 2023) CHATEAU SENEJAC Sénéjac behoort net als Talbot in Saint Julien toe aan de familie Bignon-Cordier en dat sinds 1999. Jean-Paul en Nancy Bignon-Cordier lanceerden zo hun kinderen Philippine, Marguerite en Gustave. Jean-Michel Laporte is er wijnmaker en Eric Boissenot consulent. Het terroir bestaat uit een plateau met hellingen van “graves profondes” in Le Pian-Médoc. De wijngaard is voor 37,2ha beplant (6.600 wijnstokken/ha) met 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot 8% Cabernet Franc en 4% Petit Verdot. De rest is een uitbundige parktuin met waterbronnen en een ernstige en diverse landbouwexploitatie. Dit brengt het totaal op 150 ha. Biodiversiteit wordt er hoog in het vaandel gehouden. TalbotTalbot is wereldwijd befaamd en één van de de sterkste "brands" in Bordeaux. Bovendien is zijn prijs doorgaans vrij redelijk in primeur en stijgt zijn waarde over de jaren. Deze omvangrijke wijngaard van 104 hectare is één van de meest standvastige Saint Julien geklasseerd in 1855. De familie Cordier vierde in 2018 een eeuw aanwezigheid als eigenaar. Ze stelden een dreamteam samen met Jean Michel Laporte als directeur (sinds 2018) en zowel Stéphane Derenoncourt als Eric Boissenot als consulenten. 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot en 4% Petit Verdot. De naam Talbot verwijst naar de Connétable Talbot, een Engelse militair en "gouverneur de Guyenne", die op beiaarde leeftijd verslaan werd door de Fransen tijdens de legendarische "bataille de Castillon" in 1453.
