Het profiel van deze 2022 is mineraal met hints van jodium te midden van een gecitronneerd floraal boeket. Subtiel, evenwichtig, dynamisch en verkwikkend. 70% Sauvignon Blanc en 30% Sémillon. In 2022 viert Olivier Bernard zijn 40ste oogst. Voor deze gelegenheid wordt de fles versierd met een eenmalig etiket gebaseerd op het werk van de Chinese kunstenaar Xu Bei Hong, "Galloping Horse", gemaakt in 1941. Dit moet een krachtig symbool zijn van de dynamiek van Domaine de Chevalier. Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is één van de allergrootste witte wijnen van Bordeaux. It's lively and bright, with a delicate, penetrating finish animated by racy acids. This blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon, matured entirely in large wooden foudres and 500-liter barrels instead of the traditional barriques, is one of the finest white wines of the vintage, and one of the few that transcends its limitations. 92-94 Neal Martin – vinous.com (Mei 2023) The 2022 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc was picked from 22 August to 1 September. It has an instantly satisfying bouquet as it "launches" scents of passion fruit, lemon rind and patisserie scents, very well-defined and focused. The palate is intense on the entry and impressive in weight and density. Perhaps there's not quite the tension of the previous vintage, but it is long and thickly textured on the finish. Excellent. Drink 2028-2048. 95-97 Antonio Galloni – vinous.com (Mei 2023) The 2022 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is stunning. It exudes textural depth, intensity and pedigree from the very first taste. I imagine it will still be stellar in another few years’ time. For now, it is a wine to think about cellaring. Time brings out dried lemon peel, sage, mint, chamomile, salt and crushed rock scents that lend both vibrancy and complexity. In most vintages, the Blanc is either incredibly steely or ample in feel. It needs considerable swirling and coaxing to unlock notes of fresh pineapple, orange blossoms, lime cordial, and juicy pears, giving way to wafts of honeysuckle and cedar. The medium-bodied palate is electric with citrus and tropical fruit layers, framed by a racy backbone and satiny texture, finishing long and mineral-laced. Cooked apple, lime zest and nougat with oyster and sea bed undertones. Fascinating already. 94 Jane Anson – janeanson.com (Mei 2023) Touch of reduction on the first nose, intense, gunsmoke-filled aromatics, clearly aimed at extremely long ageing. Great quality, stands out for its serious structure, with clove, aniseed and fennel woven through citrus and white pear, has weight and manages to stay on the savoury side of ripe. Needs time and food. Tasted twice. 40th harvest of Olivier Bernard (meaning a special label), 33% new oak. 95-97+ Jeb Dunnuck – jebdunnuck.com (Mei 2023) The 2022 Domaine De Chevalier Blanc brings more dimensions and layers, as well as richness. Based on 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon, aging in 40% new oak, it has a beautiful perfume of honeyed citrus, subtle tropical flowers, and chalky, minerality nuances. This carries to a medium to full-bodied white with plenty of density and depth, nicely integrated acidity, and a gorgeous finish. I wouldn't be surprised to see this end up in the top handful of whites in the vintage. 94-95 Ella Lister – lefigaro.fr (Mei 2023) - «Une finale tout en complexité» Le bouquet est riche et savoureux, pur et minéral tout à la fois avec des arômes de noyau de pêche, de caillou mouillé et de graines de coriandre écrasées. En bouche, la matière est vibrante, élégante et langoureuse. The palate is packed with all the sweet, juicy, ripe pineapples, Granny Smith apples, tangerine skins, pomelo, and honeysuckle you could ask for. The wine provides the perfect blend of fresh, juicy citrus, sweetness, lift and creaminess. Drink this young for its youthful exuberance, or age it a few years for more secondary development. The wine blends 70% Sauvignon Blanc with 30% Semillon, 13.8% ABV, 3.28 pH. The harvest took place August 26 - September 5. Vandaag bereikt ook de rode Domaine de Chevalier een kwaliteit ongezien sinds de jaren zestig. Laten we aannemen dat de laatste wijnjaren hun allerbeste zijn. Liefhebbers rekenen Domaine de Chevalier dan ook tot de voornaamste Châteaux van Pessac Léognan, samen met Haut Brion en La Mission Haut Brion, Haut Bailly, Smith Haut Lafitte, Pape Clément en Les Carmes Haut Brion. De prijs blijft bovendien redelijk. De getalenteerde Stéphane Derenoncourt is er consulent sinds 2002. BernardIn 1983 kocht Olivier Bernard Domaine de Chevalier in Léognan. De witte Domaine de Chevalier wordt al langer aanzien als één van de grootste droge witte wijnen van Bordeaux, en sinds 2002 herstelde hij ook het prestige van de rode wijn met de hulp van Stéphane Derenoncourt. Ondertussen werd hij mede-eigenaar van Château Guiraud in Sauternes samen met Stephan de Neipperg en de familie Peugeot, en vooral Matthieu Guflet.
